I loved the case in this episode. Usually I don't care much for the technical details of the cases. I watch mostly for Watson's and Holmes' relationship. The suspect this time was really intriguing though. He was good.

Sherlock and Joan gave me very...angsty feels this time. They usually have fuzzy wuzzy moments of connections when they open up to each other. I don't have a problem with Joan getting upset at him for not being nice, and I loved loved loved it when she sat down and noticed that his finger was broken. The scene at the end, however, made me feel rather uneasy. It was kinda ominous, and the lack of music that's usually playing in their moments was a large contributing factor.

Am I the only one who feels the partnership will be facing some obstacles soon??

I agree, the case in this ep was really interesting, and the guy was super creepy!

Didn't like that Watson and Sherlock spent most of the episode away from each other, but I understand what Sherlock was saying at the end and why Joan had a problem with his behaviour. Although he has come such a long way in his interactions with people there is only a certain amount he can grow, after all he is still himself.
I did like that Gregson stood up for him at the end, because he is right. Even if some of the police officers don't like him, he does find criminals and he is really good at his job.

He is, but what I don't understand is that Sherlock can be nice to others, not just Joan. It's whether he chooses to or not. I think he's definitely capable of it. Maybe he doesn't conform to 'social politeness/courtesy', but i believe he's got empathy.

If I were Joan, I'd be upset with him too. Even when Sherlock says he [only] makes an exceptional effort to accommodate her because he considers her exceptional, it didn't make me feel any better or all happy as with the bee scene. Like what someone said, it's putting pressure on Watson. If she slips up or makes a mistake, she might feel she's not 'exceptional' enough for him anymore.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like something bad is about to happen and I wanna hide under a rock. Don't get me wrong. I LOVED this episode, but the idea of those two being apart even for a little while with at least two known baddies who will want them separate kills me.

Enjoy the episode, foreva_99.

I think he is capable of caring for people and he has shown that although Joan is 'exceptional' he also does consider Bell, Gregson, etc. to be friends. I think for him, it is the people he doesn't care about that he can be rude too, mainly because his priority is his work and he feels that it is a waste of time to focus on social courtesy. I do agree with you though, he seems to show empathy and he isn't a bad person, he just makes no apologies for not being 'nice'.

I had the same feeling. I sensed a certain darkness around them; I can't quite explain it, but Sherlock especially seemed to be particularly aware that although he cares and respects Joan a lot, he'll always be Sherlock.

I didn't get that feeling, but I hope they don't go that way I do however feel that the storyline with Mycroft and his mystery call might not end well for their relationship or for Sherlocks health!

This rings true for me. Sherlock doesn't do superficial politeness/social niceness. He does sometimes pretend to be nice when it serves a purpose, like when he was 'nice' to the murderer who came to visit them at the Brownstone. With that cop at the precinct, I understand his behaviour because that cop was bad at his job, and Sherlock saw through him. Sherlock's the kind of character that wouldn't take that, and though it may be socially taboo to talk back to a senior cop, he does it anyway because in his eyes, what that cop is doing is way worse, not doing his job, and deserves no respect. On the other hand, Joan is an entirely different character. I'm pretty sure she's the kind who always plays by the rules (less now that Sherlock has taught her his trade), get good grades, taught to respect others.

It was just a clash of beliefs, I guess. This was bound to happen with any two people living together for a while.

I still feel terrible thinking about that scene. They've both done a lot to accommodate each other. It's the first time we've really seen them butt heads without making up. Fandom is thinking Watson may go away for a while. =(

And another way of looking at the end scene besides Sherlock defending his actions to Watson is that he's afraid he's letting her get too close, according to a post I read on tumblr. I thought it was interesting. When Watson suggested they 'split up' in the investigation, look at the his expression. It's quite obvious he doesn't like that idea, and I honestly think that he was hurt by her suggestion. He's always seen Watson as being with him, by his side. It could be that he's protecting himself, letting her know that he's the way he is, he can't change, to build walls around himself, to distance himself maybe. It could drive Watson away, or perhaps she knows better and can see through him. After all, she is aware that he has the capability to be empathetic.

Just some thoughts. Sorry for the many words!!
