Short Video: Get a Gleek Peek of how Darren's song "Rise" came to be now.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

“It’s about time,” adds Glee‘s piano virtuoso, Brad Ellis. “He’s a wonderful writer. You know, everyone knows him as Blaine, as the actor, and he does a tremendous job with that, but he’s something even rarer than a leading man, than a wonderful actor. He’s a really good, careful, intelligent songwriter. And Broadway-esque musicals, musical film, musical television – there’s a shortage of those people that are that smart in the way that they write. So you know, I want all the stardom for him, Broadway stardom and all of that, but I also want to make sure he keeps writing all the time.”

Ellis goes on to say, “The very last thing I was on set for was the filming of the piano playing his song and it hadn’t even been written down, and the woman (Bonnie) who was playing the hands of Lea [Michele], of Rachel, [Darren] was calling out the chords as she was playing it. She sort of listened to the track once and was matching the track, and that was kind of miraculous the composer is like shouting music theory at Bonnie who is getting it right and playing while they film it.”

— Brad Ellis on Darren Criss (withanaccent)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I’ve had that song stuck in my head for a week, it’s that catchy. … We don’t get our scripts until the last minute, so we started filming [Friday’s episode] the day after it was given to us, and we were only given the first act because that’s all they’d finished when we started. The first scene we filmed was one where Darren Criss has a speech about how it’s OK that the Warblers’ school burned down because, like a phoenix, they’re going to rise from the ashes. And he’d written this song “Rise” a couple of years ago, so he was like, “Wait, this reminds me of that song I wrote.” So I think he played it for the producers, and they were like, “This sounds exactly like what we’re trying to say.” Glee‘s whole process is full of moments like that."

— Finneas O’Connell on singing Darren’s song “Rise” (tvline)

What did everyone think of the episode?

I enjoyed it but was disappointed because there was so little Klaine. They gave us Kurt, they gave us Blaine, but not much of them as a couple. If I didn't know better I would have assumed they were both single.

Obviously, it was a Sue centered episode. It was good to see Sue called on the carpet for all the lies she's told and things she's done. I was surprised to see Becky turn against her and I felt bad for Sue to hear her parents never loved her.

I was really irritated with Rachel. That girl truly doesn't know what she wants and how to get it. She talked to Carmen and Rachel thought she needed to try harder to get back in NYADA. She got offered a role in a musical. She then got an offer to come back to NYADA. Finally she told us she was going to turn down NYADA in favor of the play. Sam, of all people, was the only one being real with her about creating a solid foundation. Everyone else was like, "Rachel has a good head on her shoulders and knows what she wants, she'll be alright." Would someone tell that girl she can't keep burning bridges on the way to the top or she'll just fall back down, only harder?

Like everyone else, I enjoyed Darren's song. The Warblers made some touching points for wanting to keep their uniforms and "Rise" was the perfect song to use to introduce new ones. I liked the compromise - grey skirts and pant, white shirts, plaid ties, and red blazers with white piping.

I'm still hoping for some Klaine romance but ...

I was disappointed.
WAY TOO MUCH SUE!!
You don't need 40 minutes focus on her, we all know what she has done through the Seasons. Fire her and good!

I can't believe we didn't get anything about Dalton/Blaine/Klaine. THIS should've been the main story, this is material!

Rachel is getting on my nerves - again. You know, for a few weeks I thought she truly grew up, learned something, but no, Miss Berry is still way too good for this world.

And seriously, Carmen kicked Blaine out of NYADA? A mentally ill student? And even if she didn't know he was ill, wouldn't Blaine (or his parents) make that clear at one point in time? And why didn't anyone say "Yeah, you know Blaine, you should go there asking for getting back in school as well".

This is all so frustrating

This is THE LAST Season, they really couldn't just do what people wanted to see could they? It's not that they still have any kind of GA left, it's all the fandoms, so GIVE THEM WHAT THEY WANT!

I'm absolutely not excited about anything thats coming tbh.

I can't be happy for Rachel getting everything - because of her arrogant behaviour. That's just not funny anymore. Her Broadway reputation is horrible - her boss on "Funny Girl" wasn't a fan of her anymore by the end and now they wanna tell me he never talked about this? Mpf!! And no one (!!!) gets a chance for joining a college 3 TIMES, after blowing the first audition!!

I love "Rise"
I wish they would've given it a little more meaning, like telling us who wrote it. And... I'd also would've liked to see Kurt doing the new Blazers, since this is Kurt's thing to do and it would've given us at least ONE Klaine moment.

Newly weds... just saying.

Jeeez Glee!

I dont find Rachel annoying or irritating ever or arrogant at all

But I want More Blaine , just him no Klaine , we have had enough of the latter, but I need more focus on Blaine and people caring for him just like they do for Rachel and what he wants to do (apart from Kurt ofcourse ) and yeah

Up until this episode I was okay with Rachel because it seemed she was beginning to face the reality of her past choices. Now I'm convinced she still thinks she's better than everyone else because of her talent and she can do what she wants if it means getting to the top. I know that sounds harsh, but really? How many people continually step on people and then get offered new opportunities? I'm hoping the next three episodes will change my mind.

It's not even the problem that they support Rachel and want her to go back to NY... I mean, that's where she belongs, ITA with that. What I don't like is that they support ONLY Rachel and that it's ALL ABOUT Rachel's future.

There are a few more people there...

In an early interview Ryan said without the right actor as Rachel Glee would not happen, the show revolved around that character. As more and more characters became popular Rachel was not always the obvious focal character but we always knew what she was doing. I think that's why we see so much of her.
