Is that a true story about Pablo Escobar’s daughter?

It is inspired by a true story. It wasn’t an American guy though. He was Australian, who ended up dating his niece and working for Escobar, in my understanding. The film is kind of an elevated genre film. They keep describing it as a romantic thriller. It kind of is that. Benicio [del Toro]’s performance is f***in’ crazy. I watched him for a day doing a speech the other day and I was wildly impressed. I think people are going to be pretty excited by what he’s doing. But the movie has its own very specific take on the story.

So it’s an American boy and Escobar’s daughter, instead of Australian and his niece?

The movie’s basically about two Canadian brothers who go to Colombia to start up this kind of surf camp. My brother in the movie is played by a really sweet guy. His name’s Josh Hutcherson. He ends up falling in love with Pablo Escobar’s niece and therefore gets kind of caught up in this increasingly frightening situation.
