"Would you like some bread Katniss?"
"Thank you" So formal  |
in the CF book, Katniss doesn't really have any feelings for Peeta until she sees her own anger/fire reflected back at her in Gale's eyes, after she inadvertently tells him about the District 8 riots she saw on the Mayor's secure-channel tv in his house as she was visiting Madge. Katniss may be angry but she is still a reluctant participant in the revolution, whereas Gale wants to plunge headlong into the conflict, all anger, fire, and hate. Katniss wants the dandelion in the spring, not more of her own anger and fire. well written book, and such an opposing set of emotions, one running from war and the other embracing it. the moment Gale heard about those D8 riots, it was over for him and Katniss, if there was ever anything or any chance. Gale was war and Peeta was peace.

and when she saw Peeta almost dying in the arena
|
yes they seem to emphasize that in the film, but i believe she was allowing her feelings from the first arena, to return as she was kinda put off by Gale's reaction to the riot news and his desire to fight, so by the time Peeta was hurt by the force field, she had reinvested in her feelings for him and it really shook her to her core. the book does show this move away from Gale, prior to her being reaped again for the 75th games. i like both the book and the film.
