yup, and it also showed that Haymitch didn't abandon or kill his ally, she left him and got killed by the people he eventually tricked into the force field. he wanted her to stay as his ally/partner.

his alcoholism was a result of ptsd from his actions in the arena, but it also enabled his empathy towards Katniss and Peeta even after many years of self abuse and helped to redeem himself in later years, and hopefully continued in New Panem. i like to think he became a counselor for kids/young adults, as District 12 was rebuilt and the survivors returned, new families had kids, and the area starting thriving again.

Yeah we understood throughout the story why he's become that way, completely nonchalant of everything and resorting to alcohol to feel numb, because having to go through what he went through is just awful. But I loved seeing him get himself together to try and help those two and he proved to be quite clever.

also like most, if not all, didnt have any training. Katniss was lucky to know how to hunt

Yeah not training and they were already weak because of the hunger in that district.
