McBealisms
  • Well where does it say that women can't act like men sometimes? I saw a piece of cute meat and I said to myself 'You only live once. Be a man!
  • Even if I get past all my problems I'm just going to go out and get new ones.
  • Men are like gum anyway. After you chew, they lose their flavor.
  • Sometimes there's no point in the truth if the only thing it'll do is cause pain.
  • We're women. We have double standards to live up to.
  • You can lead a man by the penis but it's the wrong way to tame him.
  • Being a woman, I know how women react to things even when they don't mean a thing.
  • Sometimes... when you hold out for everything, you walk away with nothing.
  • I think I need to believe that it works - love, couplehood, partnerships. The idea that when people come together they stay together...I have to take that with me to bed every night, even if I'm going to bed alone.
  • Sometimes I'm more persuasive when I lack conviction.
  • Whoever said that plenty of fish in the sea thing was lying. Sometimes there's only one fish. Trust me.

Hehe!!

I was wondering if anyone was going to come back to the thread. Everyone was so excited about the DVD. Then everyone quit coming.

I need thread title ideas.

What's your favorite season?

Um, well, I really loved them all, but I think S2 was probably my favorite

That was a great season. There were so many funny episodes. Plus, Ling and Nelle were great additions to the cast.

I didn't think that I would like Nelle when she was first added to the show, but I ended up liking her. I liked her with John.

Ling was just funny. She said things that I'd never have the nerve to say.

Thanks! I'm still working on it and changing things.

I knew I'd like Nelle when I was reading about the main characters a while ago, but I never thought I'd like Ling as well

Nelle was definitely a different one. She was very independent and strong. Nelle was the opposite of Ally. I don't like how she stole from the firm, though. It's unbelievable that she was able to get her job back. Never in the real world.

Ling was funny. I laughed when they played the wicked witch music every time she walked in the room.

I just noticed that the 19th thread was just started over here. I really like the OP, except I think the pic and title would look better centered. Other than that, I like the links and quotes you added.

Also, could I please be added to the McBealers list?
I've just started season 4 on my DVD's - my fave year of the show.

Did you already finish the series, Melis?
Hehe, Ling & the wicked witch theme. LOVED that. And IA that both Lucy & Portia were great additions to the cast in S2.

Hi, Julie Wow, I've never bought a series that I've never seen before, but that's great that you took a chance on it and ended up enjoying the series. I am surprised that you enjoyed season five as well, though. Most fans don't really like 5 too much (myself included) for various reasons.

Yeah, I liked S5 and was surprised I did since I read that a lot of people didn't In my opinion, the low point of the series was the last 5 episodes of S3 and the first 2 episodes of S4. I didn't really care for those 7 episodes very much, but whatever

Good to see you back! I want to see this thread up and going.

I'll make those changes to the opening and add you.

I have watched all but season 5. It's really the only season that I didn't like. I may get around to watching it, but it was just bad at times. I wasn't crazy about the child storyline. Dame Edna could not be more annoying.

Same here. I've never bought a whole series unseen. Glad you liked the show.

Season 3 was hard at times. Billy became so pigheaded, and then he died. It wasn't a nice sendoff for his character.

First, thanks for adding me to the list. The centering looks nice also.
I feel the same about season 5 as you. IA, it sure was BAD at times. I'm not really looking forward to getting there, so I'll definitely be taking s4 nice and slow. The thing I mostly cringe about when I think of season 5 is that once they gave Ally a daughter, the whole show just tanked. Plus, I'm not a fan of Hayden Panettiere so that was just a double thumbs down for me. Dame Edna is the lady with the pink hair, right? She was ANNOYING! Also, JBJ should stick to singing because he's not much of an actor IMO. I'm saddened we didn't get the Ally/Larry wedding which would have totally changed the way season 5 played out. There are more issues I have with five but I'll stop there because I don't want to ramble too much . Fortunately, there are still things I do enjoy in five. I didn't mind Glenn, Raymond or Jenny. I liked Matthew Perry's short stint on the show and the lawyer-turned therapist was funny. I do remember really enjoying the Josh Groban episode that year (5x07). That was a sad, touching episode. It's too bad there was so much wrong with the last year that the positives don't outweigh the negatives. Maybe I'll enjoy it more when I re-watch it again. It's the only season where I've only seen the episodes once, so maybe now - five years later, I'll have a different perspective.

I think Billy somewhat redeemed himself in 3x14. He and Ally had made amends just in time for him to be diagnosed with a brain tumor. I think that once David knew Gil would be leaving the show, he wanted to write him out in a different way, so they turned his character into a "male schauvanist pig" to spice up the drama and then they killed him off for shock value (such a sad, yet beautiful episode) . I still somewhat liked his character that year (I owe that all to Gil's portrayal), even though I def. wanted to smack him at times.

Julie, that's interesting. I really enjoyed the last five of three and the first two of four. I love the episode with Ally's 30th birthday. It's actually one of my favorites of three.

Well, those episodes had their good moments, but they just didn't seem as good to me for some reason

I understand that. I have episodes throughout the series I feel that way about too.
The first few times I saw The Musical episode, I didn't like it too much. But watching it on DVD again after not seeing it for a few years, I found myself really enjoying it. It was a fun little episode that played out in a unique way. I could have done without Brian, though. I wasn't a big fan of him. He dragged down the last few episodes of three IMO. I was glad that Ally dumped him in the season 4 premiere.
