Haven (Syfy) #1: It takes a village to hide a secret.

Welcome to the appreciation thread for HAVEN #1

Haven, Maine appears to be just another lively, New England seaside town, complete with quaint shops, scenic beaches and a busy harbor.

But when FBI Agent Audrey Parker (Emily Rose) arrives on a routine case, she encounters the mysterious underside of Haven. Her investigation leads her to discover that certain people in Haven are supernatural in a way that can't be controlled - and they often hide in plain sight. Audrey is not just a relentless, highly trained investigator - she's charming and clever, gifted with unique intuition. In the series, she discovers that she alone is uniquely qualified to save these people, and she chooses to stay in Haven - not only to unravel the mysteries surrounding these troubled people, but to dig deeper into the unsettling truths about her own history and her ties to this extraordinary place.

As she resolves the problems of others, Audrey finds allies in Haven to help her along the way. There's Nathan Wuornos (Lucas Bryant), a wry local detective who becomes Audrey's partner on the police force - and who is himself one of the people suffering a supernatural affliction. Nathan is numb to all sensation, everything from pain to simple human touch - or so he would lead Audrey to believe. Duke Crocker (Eric Balfour) is Nathan's nemesis, a rogue who makes a living doing secretive work on both sides of the law. And standing in the background are more of the Haven locals who will aid or impair Audrey's journey. People like Vince and Dave Teagues, the brothers who own the town newspaper, and Police Chief Wuornos, Nathan's father who - like many in Haven - is skilled at keeping the town's secrets.

Haven, based on the Stephen King novella The Colorado Kid, is the story of Audrey's entry into this seemingly normal town. Across the seasons, Audrey's quest to understand herself and the great mysteries of Haven will drive her ever deeper down the rabbit hole.

heya I watch this show as well....I like it enough for a summer season filler. Mostly love eric balfour and lucas bryant definitely enjoyed the last show with the artist. (didn't love the one with the taxidermy animals though that one was just way too out there.

are you more of a fan of audrey and duke or audrey and nathan?
so far I've liked duke a bit more for audrey he's got that surly but potentially sweet side to him nathan is the classic hero though so..... decisions decisions

I am still a bit on the fence I love them both. But I think I like Audrey/Duke just a little bit more, because his character makes that pairing so interesting!

yeah it seems like the writing was definitely working towards putting duke and audrey together, but this last ep was a game changer... Nathan didn't feel any of Jess's kisses, but did with audrey...hmmmmmmmm
Liked the idea of the shadow guy.....but I didn't understand how they caught it. So she got it in the interrogation room.... and then started setting off all the flashes, but how did they get the shadow into the house? (and is the blind guy living in the house too?) the ep was interrupted at the end for me by people walking in and out of the room

I'm hoping to bring this thread back up from the dead because this past week's episode was A-MAZING. It was a bit weird and slacking early on, but then they had this episode and I was shocked it wasn't the season finale (or like a mid season break clifhanger) it was SO good!

anyone watch it?! ....anyone?

The shadow was hurt by the flashlights Audrey used and had to go back to its origin - the blind man, then Nathan turned off the lights and without lights no shadow. at least that´s how I think it was .

I just watched the last ep and found it amazing (sad too, I liked Eleanor). Nice twist from the writers: let Nathan kiss Audrey without really kissing her

ah thanks, I watched that ep again....and didn't really like the ending. kinda unfair the blind guy is locked up. His shadow killed those people and he didn't really have control over it...It wasn't his fault to me. :/

but anyways, this last ep really made up for it! loved the audrey/nathan moment and when they pull her from the trunk he's grasping her hand for dear life hoping she'll live! I wonder if they're going to put in Julia (? dr. carr's daughter) as a replacement for eleanor? i wasn't really feeling her character, not the biggest fan at the moment, but who knows she may grow on me..

mmm. I'm not sure, what shows it's similar too. It's kind of like a procedural crime show, but since it involves the supernatural anything can happen so it's very difficult to find out who's the culprit. I definitely like that aspect, they have full episodes posted on their website. I would definitely give one or two a try. Plus Lucas Bryant and Eric Balfour are pretty good eye candy

Duke and Nathan are definitely eye-candy.

As for couples I have to admit that I'm rooting for Audrey/Duke maybe because Audrey seems to be more carefree or as carefree as she can be around Duke. Plus I have a soft spot for Eric Balfour ever since L&O: Conviction. I loved his character and Julianne Nicholson's character on that show.

As for Nathan I think the actor is doing a good job but Nathan is so dour and stiff at times. He can be a bit of a downer. I also liked him and Jess.

I have to say beyond that I'm more interested in the back story between Duke/Nathan. What happened between them? Why does Nathan seem to dislike Duke so much. It seems at times that Duke was willing to make the first move but that Nathan wouldn't have it.

Duke can be a welcome relief from the drum and strang of the supernatural freak of the week. I also liked the coroner and the brothers reporters.

definitely liked the coroner and the newspaper guys

yeah agreed, nathan can be a bit of a downer sometimes, but after this past week's ep my perspective on him has definitely changed. first time we saw that emotional outburst from him. i liked it.

DUHsoTK: here's also a good vid to watch to get a sense of what the show and characters are about.
