From Emmy Award winners John Wells, Ann Biderman and Chris Chulack comes a raw and authentic look at a police unit in Los Angeles. From the beaches of Malibu to the streets of East Los Angeles, "Southland" is a fast-moving drama that will take viewers inside the lives of cops, criminals, victims and their families.

Michael Cudlitz ("A River Runs Through It") plays John Cooper a seasoned Los Angeles cop, assigned to train young rookie Ben Sherman (Ben McKenzie, "The O.C."). Cooper's honest, no-nonsense approach to the job leaves Sherman questioning whether or not he has what it takes to become a police officer.

Cudlitz and McKenzie are joined by other cast members, including Regina King ("Ray," “Jerry Maguire”), who plays Detective Lydia Adams. Adams lives with and is the primary caregiver of her mother. Her partner, Detective Russell Clarke (Tom Everett Scott, "Boiler Room") is an unhappily married father of three. Michael McGrady ("The Thin Red Line") plays Detective Daniel "Sal" Salinger. Sal oversees fellow gang detectives Nate Moretta (Kevin Alejandro, "Drive," "Ugly Betty") and Sammy Bryant (Shawn Hatosy, "Alpha Dog"). Arija Bareikis (“Crossing Jordan”) plays patrol officer Chickie Brown, a single mom who dreams of being the first woman accepted into SWAT.

"Southland" is a John Wells Production in association with Warner Bros. Television. Wells, Chulack and Biderman serve as executive producers. Biderman is the creator and Chulack will also serve as director of the series.

Premieres this week ... anyone going to watch?

Lovie 04-06-2009 01:08 PM

ME  this one and the show called the Unusuals on ABC start this week. Thanks for starting this thread. Both shows look interesting and the cast for both have favorites from previous shows. I loved Amber Tamblin and Bejamin McKenzie.

I'll try to go ahead and DVR it. I'm curious to see something by Wells and Chulack.

i caved and watched it early, but it was excellent! i enjoyed it a lot... even cried a little towards the end... and fake empire was used so beautifully too

just one question for anyone who has seen it though, was ben's partner, john, at a gay bar?

Alexa 04-09-2009 09:33 PM

I have this set to record. Mainly for Ben.

Ill let you know what I think after I see it.

goodbreakingbad 04-09-2009 09:35 PM

I watched it...so far, I'm really only feelin' the Ben storyline. I love that character. And wow...Ben McKenzie can actually act. That scene with Ben and Taylor Handley was funny for obvious Ryan/Oliver from the OC reasons. And I couldn't help but chuckle wihen his partner told him he had 90210 written all over him.

There's supposed to be a gay character...so it could be him.

I might give it a few more eps...but it doesn't seem like my kind of show overall, but we'll see. I might just keep up with the Ben storyline. :look:

The partner is the gay character right...that ending in the bar where the other patron states, had a bad day, was arrested, and his partner says, yeah, me too, I had a rough one as well.

It was very gritty and tough to watch but you are right Ben can act.

I want to know if Ben is from a high profile family and why he choose to be a cop.

goodbreakingbad 04-10-2009 09:37 PM

I wonder if the gay cop is out yet.
