John said the guy arrested did do 11 of the murders, but he doesn't think he did them all..
That was also reflected on the show. And I think they also wanted it to be told on the show to give life to the case being re-opened/examined again.

Ahh I couldn't remember...the scene with Holden and the crosses was in the book.

The chapters mix with the cases and the team he got to have and become great friends/family with

Damn that was an eye opener. UGH! Talking about all of this makes me miss S2. What a superb season. I remember wanting to re-watch the season again after I binged it.
