Taboo (FX) #1: A Mysterious Legacy and Waging War On Those Who've Wronged Him...

Season 1

Episodes

101 - James Delaney, believed dead, returns to London to attend his father's funeral. Other than owning a small part of the west coast of North America, Horace has left nothing of value. The land, Nootka Sound, is in dispute between Great Britain and the United States, who are at war. The East India Company had an agreement to buy the land from Zilpha Geary, Delaney's half-sister, but Delaney knows the war is coming to an end, greatly increasing the value of the land, and scorns their offer. Delaney discovers his father had died from arsenic poisoning, so his mind could have been affected during his final months.

102 - Delaney sets about reclaiming his inheritance; he buys a ship at auction, then begins to assemble his crew. The reading of Horace's will concludes with the appearance of Lorna Bow, a London actress, announcing that she and Horace were married. Delaney pays off Horace's numerous creditors, and makes contact with Dr. Dumbarton. The East India Company plot Delaney's murder. The man with the silver tooth stabs Delaney, but Delaney, although severely injured, manages to kill him.

103 - After Dumbarton administers to Delaney's wound, his assistance regarding Nootka Sound is made clear. Delaney cleverly protects his life against the East India Company and the Crown by writing his will which states that all his possessions would pass to the United States government. When Lorna Bow makes claim for half of Horace Delaney's assets, she is warned that her life is at risk and she should flee to Paris. Godfrey is blackmailed by Delaney to provide secrets from the East India Company's meetings. Bow, on leaving the theatre is abducted, only to be rescued by Delaney.

104 - Bow, encouraged by Delaney, allows herself to be arrested by the Crown. About to be raped by Coop, she is rescued when the East India Company intervene having been tipped off by Delaney. Cholmondeley advises Delaney on gunpowder. They plan to steal saltpetre from a Company warehouse. An attempt to kill Delaney instigated by the US secret agent Carlsbad, ends with the disembowelment of his attacker. When Delaney is invited to a ball held by the Countess Musgrove he asks Bow to accompany him. Although she neither confirms or denies it, he realises that Musgrove is Carlsbad. Thorne, suffering from laughing gas provided by Cholmondeley, challenges Delaney to a duel to the death.

105 - After a surprising turn to a duel at dawn, James Delaney finds himself blackmailed and against the time.

Thanks for opening this thread, Millie Mae.

Seems like FX airs it on a Tuesday and BBC One on Saturdays so the U.S. is only delayed a few days.

I like the premise of this show and I watched this one mainly for Tom Hardy who is a brilliant actor and I also enjoyed his guest stint on Peaky Blinders.

I'm a bit confused with the overall plot, especially the "witchy" parts. What happened in Africa? I like his clash with the East India Company and it was so good to see Jonathan Pryce on this one after a really wonderful performance as the High Sparrow on GoT.

I don't think we're supposed to know exactly what happened in Africa yet but my theory is he spent time with a Shaman of sorts and knows either Voodoo or Hoodoo...

I like the mystery of it all and a little bit more being revealed each episode.

I just finished making a batch of icons/avatars for the show, so I thought I would share!

Yeah it's all very mysterious. I'd like to know more about it as we get more eps.

Thanks for sharing all the icons, they're wonderful.

Thanks!

I question the validity of wether his half-sister was really his father's daughter I mean she wasn't left anything in the will...and the mystery of how his father 'communicated' with James (Hardy) before his death is ominous...

Yeah, we still don't know the circumstances of how his father really died. He just came back to claim his father's will, rightly so, but then it looks like something odd has happened to him too.

Looking forward to watching this tomorrow for me (UK airs them on a Saturday). I'm intrigued how it will all go down soon and what will happen to the East India Company once James achieve his means.

I try to watch when it airs, as it's on at 7PM for me.

EDIT:

So I watched the episode!

I don't get what her husband was trying to do to her? Exorcise some demon from her that he thought was possessing his wife's dreams? In the form of James?

The whole ship wreck with the slave ship is the questionable matter. The trade company is trying to hide it and yet slowly things are being revealed, so it's getting interesting.

What were your thoughts on the episode?

I think the husband thought she was possessed. Clearly she isn't and that scene of him beating her up and then the ritual part was so hard to watch.

To be quite honest, the episodes are slow for me and we're already down to the last 3 (?) eps so I expect it will pick up soon. I want to see James' endgame and the whole Africa story arc and all the witchy parts of the show addressed already.
