The Wire #1 ~ "It's all in the game, yo."

The Wire #1 Appreciation Thread

The Wire is an American crime drama television series set and produced in and around Baltimore, Maryland. Created and primarily written by author and former police reporter David Simon, the series was broadcast by the premium cable network HBO in the United States.
Each season of The Wire introduces a different institution in the city of Baltimore and its relationship to law enforcement. In chronological order they are: the illegal drug trade, the seaport system, the city government and bureaucracy, the school system, and the print news media, while continuing on characters/plots from previous seasons.
Simon has said that despite its presentation as a crime drama, the show is "really about the American city, and about how we live together. It's about how institutions have an effect on individuals. Whether one is a cop, a longshoreman, a drug dealer, a politician, a judge or a lawyer, all are ultimately compromised and must contend with whatever institution to which they are committed."
Despite receiving only average ratings and never winning major television awards, The Wire has been described by many critics as one of the greatest TV dramas of all time. The show is recognized for its realistic portrayal of urban life, its literary thematics, and its uncommonly deep exploration of social and political themes.

I would post all the characters sorted by their profession, but there are too many to post.

No trailer because there isn't a trailer that could tell you how good "The Wire" is.

Hmm, that's a tough one. I really liked the B&B enterprise so I must say S1 and S3, they were just class of drug kingpins... I watched S2 fastest because it's easier to relate... S4 was awesome and S5 was are you ****ing crazy.

Who's your favorite character? You can name more of them from different "professions".

From police definetely Sydnor, Jimmy, Bunk and Lester.
From drug related - Stringer, Omar, Bodie, D'Angelo, Cutty, BUBBLES!

Favorite quote?
Favorite scene?

I'm glad when someone starts to watch The Wire, just keep going. There isn't a more realistic show than this.

spoilerish to people who didn't watch S4.

Similarities from the kids to all grown characters?
For me Dukie is Bubbles...
Michale it seems Omar, which turned out great!
Naymond don't know and for me Randy was like Prop Joe.

I've only watched the first season and part of the second, but it's definitely so well done and intense!

I enjoyed seeing how the drug dealer operations work.

Glad you guys are enjoying this thread.

Well, I was sad after B&B storyline ended in S3, you know why!
B&B >> Marlo crew!

S4 is really a stick in the eye to the school system and the government, the journey of Michael, Namond, Randy and Dukie will be *a lot of emotions combined*.

On a another note, you can see how much awards are "important" when The Wire never got one because of politics.

Obama in an interview with David Simon said that his favorite character is Omar.

I can see how this show would have rattled the cages of those in politics too close for comfort I bet!

Sounds like the President's got good taste!

That's when you know it's really good! Plus I feel like with this show you can pick up on things you may have missed before.
