Surely Zendaya's in this film so she can be the love interest in the next film?

You know, in my day the X-Men story in the comics was never about Mystique. She was a secondary character at best. Wolverine being big in the earlier films is ok with me, because he's been the most popular X-Man since the '70s, but Mystique's major role in the films is a bit weird. Jennifer's obvious talent and relatability make up for it a bit, but there's little of the comic book Mystique in Jennifer's portrayal.

I think Marvel being compromised by Disney will do nothing but negatively affect the characters and stories, dragonfire. Marvel will never have creative freedom now that they're being controlled by the Mickey Mouse Club. The DCEU and Fox's X-Men universe could very well eclipse the MCU at that rate. As for Mystique, her position in the X-Men films has more to do with Bryan Singer than anything else. It wasn't J-Law that put Mystique front and center in the X-Men films, dragonfire, it was Rebecca Romijn. Fox cast that first X-Men film based on what was most feasible for them at the time, and Mystique's shape-changing was similar enough to the T-1000 that they thought it would be marketable. She was basically the "CGI" character mentioned sarcastically in Deadpool; a gimmick character. It was because of her presence in the original trilogy that she ended up in the First Class trilogy. And J-Law was still an unknown actress when she got cast as Mystique as she had only just received her first Oscar nomination for Winter's Bone that year and she hadn't even been cast in The Hunger Games yet. So it's not anywhere near like what the MCU is doing with Zendaya, which is just using a Marvel movie to promote a Disney kid. And there's simply no comparing Zendaya to Jennifer Lawrence, dragonfire. __________________

Yeah, while I don't like JLaw very much, I won't deny that she has way more talent than Zendaya.

I didn't like Romjin's Mystique. There was no depth to the character and Romjin lacks Lawrence's talent. The whole nudity thing was ridiculous. In the comics she wears CLOTHES. And in the comics she depends on trickery and her gun. She's not an unarmed combat expert. Nor did she work with Magneto in any of the comics I read. She was Nightcrawler's mother and Rogue's adopted mother. She was in an implied lesbian relationship with Destiny, an older mutant precog who was a member of the second Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, which Mystique led. That team eventually got pardoned and went to work for the government as Freedom Force. In that capacity they defeated and arrested the Avengers.
