I'm glad Parasite won. And swept in its categories.
That and this recap were the highlights for me: |

Yeah I also really enjoyed that we didn't have a proper host again and just had random lesser-known people introduce segments and performances.

Thanks for the new thread, Anja!
I didn't watch the Oscars. I heard it was the lowest rated Oscar ceremony in history. They just haven't been that good since the 1990s and 2000s. And to be honest, all the Best Picture winners from the last ten years haven't been nearly as popular or memorable as the ones from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, and the early 2000s. Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! __________________

Welcome back, guys I hope you all had a good weekend!
I refuse to do anything for Valentine's Day because it's just a made up holiday to encourage consumerism Plus, I always think if you need a special day to be nice to your partner then... maybe you shouldn't date them in the first place __________________

Thanks, Anja!
Well, okay. It's only meant to be a special day for sweethearts. You just do a little something extra. I know couples tend to do a little something extra on Halloween and Christmas as well. __________________

I've never seen that either, Anja.
It's going, Anja. I'm waiting to get the paperwork sent to me to fill out my background check because I don't have a printer and I can't download the damn thing. Do they not know that not everyone has a printer? I hope you're doing well, Anja. __________________

Hey guys I was shooting a short film so I got super caught up in all that, sorry for being MIA.
I didn't watch the Oscars but I'm very happy with the results tbh, last year was such a let down that this year made up for it. And while I do agree that these films don't feel like classics the way the films of the 90s did, I do think we need to give it some time to see what stays and becomes a classic I think Parasite has a lot of potential I didn't do anything for Valentines Day either But I was on the film set with my boyfriend which was fun __________________

Me too, Anja. January and February are my least favorite months.
Hi, Sheida! It's okay. Welcome back! OMG, you and your boyfriend were on a movie set? Which one? Well, I do know that Parasite's win is historic because usually foreign films win in the foreign film category but have never won Best Picture. I think Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was the last one to come close to it, but lost to Gladiator. True, I guess we'll see how the Best Picture winners of the last decade fare over time, but so far I think only The Hurt Locker has stood the test of time in terms of popularity. The King's Speech, The Artist, Argo, 12 Years A Slave, Birdman, Spotlight, Moonlight, The Shape of Water, and Green Book just don't seem to inspire a lot of nostalgia or repeat views. Will anyone want a 20th anniversary edition of those films? And it's not just the 90s. I can go back to when I was born and run the list of Best Picture winners, most of which have become classics. Now, I know some of these films are ones that a lot of people were upset about having won. Many people will say that Star Wars, Raging Bull, The Color Purple, Born on The Fourth of July, Goodfellas, Saving Private Ryan, Pulp Fiction, Fargo, Apocalypse Now, Brokeback Mountain, and There Will Be Blood probably deserved it more. There's also a lot of films like Jaws, The Exorcist, The Towering Inferno, Raiders of The Lost Ark, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, and Inception that were crowd pleasers that got nominated but didn't win. Anyway, these are the Best Picture winners from 1970 to 2009: Patton The French Connection The Godfather The Sting The Godfather Part II One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest Rocky Annie Hall The Deer Hunter Kramer vs. Kramer Ordinary People Chariots of Fire Gandhi Terms of Endearment Amadeus Out of Africa Platoon The Last Emperor Rain Man Driving Miss Daisy Dances With Wolves The Silence of The Lambs Unforgiven Schindler's List Forrest Gump Braveheart The English Patient Titanic Shakespeare In Love American Beauty Gladiator A Beautiful Mind Chicago The Lord of The Rings: The Return of The King Million Dollar Baby Crash The Departed No Country For Old Men Slumdog Millionaire The Hurt Locker __________________
