Synopsis

Based on the 1981 Uncanny X-Men storyline "Days of Future Past" by Chris Claremont and John Byrne, X-Men: Days of Future Past is produced and directed by Bryan Singer and acts as a sequel to both 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand and 2011's X-Men: First Class.

The storyline is set to alternate between the 1970’s, and a future-set post apocalyptic America in which Mutant stalking Sentinels rule the United States, and mutants live hunted and afraid, or confined to internment camps. The 1970’s X-Men are forewarned of this dark future by a time-traveler who’s journeyed back in time to prevent the coming dystopia.

Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore, Ellen Page, and Daniel Cudmore return from X-Men: The Last Stand, while James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, and Lucas Till return from X-Men: First Class. Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Booboo Stewart, Fan Bingbing, Adan Canto, Evan Peters and Josh Helman round out the film's principal cast.

Principal photography began in April 2013 in Montreal, Canada. Production wrapped August 17th 2013.

The film was shot in 3D.

It is the most expensive film ever shot in Canada, and the second most expensive film ever produced by 20th Century Fox.

The movie is released May 23rd 2014.

No Jen at the London Premiere, but they seem to have purposely built this one around the Professors, and the Magnetos.

Here's more vids from New York though...

... Jen's at the 1:34 mark.

Jen's at the 2:59 mark.

....But this movie belongs to Jackman and Lawrence....

Switching from her honorable Hunger Games heroine into badass mode with supreme ease, Lawrence is sensational, whether slinking around in Mystique's body-hugging blue reptilian skin, displaying the shape-shifter's balletic fight skills or adopting seductive human form. Her romantic friendship with Charles, stretching back to their childhoods, adds poignancy to Mystique's struggle, notably in a wonderful airport scene during which Professor X gets inside her head via random people in the terminal.

The reviews are enormously encouraging, though I'm avoiding reading them for the most part.

I tried the same, but I couldn't resist the temptation of reading it.

So that, I'm a little bit spoiled by it.

However, to my defense it is very hard for such a blockbuster like X-Men: The Past is The Future to avoid of reading reviews.

Trick is to skim them. Just to get a vibe of how the movie's being received. But you don't have to defend yourself for reading, they're there to be read.

Now, we wait for the 23rd...

At the core of Days of Future Past is a quartet of very strong performances from McAvoy, Fassbender, Jackman and Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique, here given a more significant role in what is the best use of the character to date.

This isn't the kind of movie that should be earning anybody the kind of raves we're accustomed to seeing for her. It's ensemble, it's comic book.but she still does lmao.even playing a mutant.that JLAW power

but this one from variety bugs me rn

Quote:
While Lawrence looks fetching enough in Mystique’s blue birthday suit, the actress registers with less impact than one might have hoped; coming off her explosively entertaining turn in the much more elaborate Me Decade re-creation of “American Hustle,” she has relatively little to do here other than glower, snarl and let the f/x artists do their thing (though it’s fun to hear her speaking Vietnamese at one point).

that reviewer seems to be complaining that Mystique doesn't have enough to do,which I hope isn't true

anyway movie is getting great great reviews everywhere

I'd have to differ with you there. It's perhaps not true of every comic book ensemble, but X-Men has always been character driven, and requiring of strong, emotional performances from its actors, particularly under Bryan Singer. With the performances being praised in almost every review, that seems to have continued in this one.

I haven't read any of the reviews too deeply, but most seem to be saying that Jen, apart from being brilliant, has much more to do this time out, and I'm quite certain myself that Mystique's role is central and crucial, so I really don't know where Variety could be coming from.

You can never have enough Jen. That might be it.

well I'm mostly speaking for myself, you really don't expect Jen to get amazing reviews for playing a X-men character, just like when she plays a david russell's character.I thought critics are not going to praise her as much as usual.but again, this just proves how amazing Jlaw really is.

this is truly amazing cast with so many great great actors, you don't see that at all in other super hero movies.at all.there are many actors in other super hero movies that give lackluster performance and I'm not naming them since I don't want to offend anyone here.

and since my fav x-men movie is X2,and the critics are saying this is the best x-men movie ever, you know the movie delivered

you may me right about variety.maybe they expected jen in every scene

Certainly, critics can be occasionally dismissive of the acting in movies like this. None the less the genre is filled with some towering performances. Christopher Reeve, Heath Ledger, Gary Oldman, Robert Downey Jr., Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and yes James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender, to name a few.

It's certainly heartening to see Jennifer receive praise for her work in this latest X-flick, but I have to say it doesn't surprise me that she has.

See the list above, for my thoughts on this.

But I'll add Anthony Hopkins, Marlon Brando, Andrew Garfield, Samuel L. Jackson...

I won't ask you to name them either (though I would certainly be curious), but I could name some myself.

X2 is still the high water mark for me too so, like you say, if this is supposed to be better, then that's the ball game.

From TOTAL FILM...

Quote:
Lawrence honours increased screen-time with emotional conviction, wounded eyes speaking volumes. Indeed, old and new cast-members shine through the screen-crowd. More McKellen would have been nice but Stewart monologues magnificently, Michael Fassbender relishes ’70s Magneto’s cruel cool, Dinklage makes Trask more than a ’tache-twirling tyrant and Hugh Jackman’s sardonic Logan never gets old (and he has a 20-year-old’s bum).
... and most of the rest seem to agree. Variety were just looking for a criticism I think.

Less than that. It's next Friday. 10 Days.

Here's a little news as well. Lauren Shuler Donner has confirmed Channing Tatum as Gambit for X-Men: Apocalypse as well as a planned solo adventure...

SINGAPORE today...
