It was the first school day for their senior highschool year and they talked about their current problems with their boyfriends.

Here is the dialog:

Caroline: Yes! And why should I let the fact that my boyfriend was turned into a hybrid put a damper on an otherwise fabulous day.

Elena: Today's our anniversary. Technically, Stefan and I met on the first day of school last year.

Caroline: Yeah. You win.

Bonnie: Are you sure you want to be here?

Elena: I have to be here. I have to put it behind me. New year. New life.

The bold part is what Bonnie is saying in that gif.

Amazing that this show hasn't even been two years yet.

... it really shows you how rushed everything is.

They all have some boyfriend problems in that scene though.

Yeah it´s so weird even the actors sometimes talk like, "in the last four years this character etc" because the timeline is so screwed.

Some really big ones.
