I was actually thinking about that the other day. I think she's a pretty good mix of both of them with just a splash more Andy.

Yeah, I knew very early on they would go Pacey and Joey at least for a bit. It was that same episode that really sold it for me...Pacey just waited around for a long time to move in. I did hear that he wasn't originally supposed to end up with Joey, though. And that Dawson was supposed to get her. I can also see a splash of Pacey in Emmett so I think it may be hard to match them quite so perfectly. And the long wait that Pacey/Joey fans had to endure could be something similar with Bay and Emmett. That being said, I still feel like Travis is this series Pacey and that Bay and he could grow together. If the writers decide to go that route.

I wouldn't say like better. Right now in her life and in his life, I think they would be good for each other.

I recognize that Travis has been a supportive, good friend to Bay. I see the potential for him to crush on her, but even that crushing hasn't been sold to me yet. Travis told Emmett (and us) he has feelings for Bay, but I am not sure if I believe it. I haven't seen it with my own eyes yet.
Oh my goodness...you should just watch Dawson's Creek...lol. Sometimes I rewatch it because it's so different and really hard to describe. I normally watch seasons 1-4 (4 with great sadness) and then skip to the last episode lol.

As for if people will root for Bay and Travis more...I don't think we'll know for sure until we get into their relationship. People on youtube seem to be swaying to Travis' side, though. And they aren't even together (yet).

I don't think anyone could ever be as obnoxious as Dawson. He is just so terrible. I do say that Travis has the potential for the same lovableness. It's difficult because we still don't know him yet. I do like him though. I'm not 100% sold on him but I hated him before so it may be that getting in the way.

I believe his feelings for Bay. To me it said it all in his silence and in his actions. That was played very well.

Travis seemed mesmerized by Daphne for a while, but they never had a real connection either. I've never felt Travis's feelings run all that deep. He seems somewhat emotionally damaged by his early home life. That's what has made him so angry. Melody's maternal love has healed some of that hurt, but Travis still has issues. He could benefit from counseling. I'm just not in love with his character.
I think you are spot on with Daphne and Mary Beth. Mary Beth always seemed to be someone that he could be with because she wanted to be with him. It didn't seem even, more like convenience.

As for his bad home life and his emotional damage, that's what makes a compelling character. Hell, that's half the reason I was so in love with Pacey. He persevered even though his home life was bad. I see Travis as being the same. They parallel very well.

Time will only tell, but I think it will be long and drawn out. That's the way that Paul and Lizzy like things. :/

Like I said perviously, I don't know if it bodes poorly. Pacey was a dark horse but an obvious one. Whereas Travis snuck up on us. And I still think Emmett has a dash of Pacey as well. So the storyline might play out like that as well. It would be interesting to go in deep comparison but I think it would take way too long and be a little outside of the realm of this thread...lol.

Maybe one day, but I am just not interested in Dawson's Creek at the moment. I've tried to watch, in the past, and it just hasn't captivated me yet.

I wonder how they will write Travis, during the time he is paired with Bay. Will he be perfect and charming? Or will he make mistakes, too?

I've often thought that it is easy for Travis to say to Emmett, "You treated her like dirt," when Travis has never experienced being hurt by Bay. And honestly, Bay has done a lot of growing up recently, so Travis probably never will experience that.

But Emmett has experienced the feeling, and I understand why he needed space. I understand why he wanted to try a relationship with someone new. Bay needed to do the same thing, after Emmett hurt her.

As for Travis, it's not that I do not believe he could have feelings for Bay. It's just the old adage "don't tell the reader, show the reader" and so far, I have not "seen" Travis's feelings for Bay. Travis is telling me, the viewer, that he has these feelings, but I haven't seen them firsthand, beyond the fact that Travis got upset when Bay was assaulted. But even that, to me, didn't feel like it was about Bay. It seemed as though Travis was more upset with himself, for being the one to provide Bay with the alcohol. (I will give Ty kudos for discouraging Bay from drinking, while they were together. I'm surprised Travis didn't do the same, in Mexico, after everything that happened to Bay at the dorm party.)

If the writers are going to try to sell Travis's love for Bay, then I need to see moments when Travis is looking at Bay longingly. For instance, in the VW van, on the way to their lodging in Mexico, Travis seemed disinterested in Bay. While Emmett was walking around with his video camera, I caught him capturing video footage of Bay twice. It is as if Emmett's camera is drawn to Bay like a magnet. Travis seemed more interested in the food.

Oh, well, we will see how it all plays out, I suppose.

Yes, it did. That happens in real life. Sometimes people want a significant other, so they choose someone available, rather than someone with whom they share a real connection. Travis & Mary Beth's connection is that they both were available.

Sure. I feel the bad home life makes Travis a more interesting character, too. But so far, I haven't been able to get past his anger. Right now, when I think of Travis, I remember:
  1. how he threw the towels at Daphne in the gym
  2. how he cussed out John's best customer at the car wash
  3. how he threatened to sue John for discrimination when let go
  4. how he played vigilante, after Daphne was robbed
  5. how he made fun of Noah at a party and took a swing at him for retaliating
  6. how he refused to allow the pilot program students at Carlton
  7. how he refused to allow Mary Beth to ask him about his family
  8. how he refused to allow Mary Beth to talk about her brother and his suicide
  9. how he brought alcohol to the dorm party, knowing students were underage
  10. how he took a swing at the guy making a disparaging comment about Bay

When I think of Travis, I still remember Daphne's line to Emmett, "He's an angry guy." I cannot get past that description of him.

Travis has his sweet moments, but I feel his anger is always lurking. And I see Travis as having slightly below-average intelligence, too.

Bubbling anger and below-average intelligence do not make for a strong romantic hero, but maybe the writers will show viewers something more.

How did Pacey appear to viewers, before he swept in on a white horse, to steal Joey away from Dawson? Did he have anger issues and struggle in school, too?

Well, as long and drawn out as they can make it. I suppose it depends on whether the show receives a Season 5 (and how many episodes that might be). Personally, I believe the writers are shooting themselves in the foot ratings-wise, by going with the long and drawn out. Artistically, it is beautiful, but many fans do not have the patience for it.

I have the patience, if I knew that there would be time to explore the couple together, as a united team, too. But I sense that time will not exist. That makes me sad.

A year or so ago, I found a list of qualities required for an epic romance in literature.

I remember it said that one or both members of the couple must have the option of another partner as a serious contender. One partner may offer “everything” but something is missing, the other offers the “something” that is missing but cannot offer everything.

For a romance to be truly epic, there is no way for the couple to have it all.

I've never watched Dawson's Creek, but from the things that I have heard, it sounds like Pacey offered Joey everything, except for that one thing Dawson offered her, which was the feeling of being lifelong soulmates. Is that accurate?

As for Travis, I am not sure if he offers Bay everything yet. I guess we will have to wait and see. But for the moment, Travis would seem to offer Bay security, in a way that Emmett no longer offers it to her.

After everything that has happened with the cheating and the abandonment, giving her heart to Emmett, again, would be a risky move for Bay. Travis is safer.

Pacey was everything to Joey that Dawson was not Amy. When the series started, Dawson was it for her but a HUGE shift happened in season 3, Dawson turned his back on Joey and pushed Pacey at her to be friends, Joey fell in love with Pacey and nothing was ever the same again. Joey did not like the term soulmate for Pacey, because as she said, she wanted to create their own history together. Joey gravitated back to Dawson after Pacey dumped her as a security blanket, that's all Dawson ever was and Pacey grew into her true love. She ran from that love for a long time. But that's Dawson's creek, very different show from Switched at birth

Spot on. Yes, similarities but still a different show. I think they have strayed enough that we can't get real spoilers.

And Amy...lol half of DC was Pacey almost failing out of school and hitting people (even for Joey). So I'd say, yes. Travis has those same characterizations.

I think Travis and Bay could be a relationship where they grow together and discover each other. I think Travis will work on his anger as well, especially now that we have the main root of it exposes (and trusted only to Bay).

Oh, good, so there are SEVERAL differences between the two love triangles.

I don't get the feeling that Emmett is only Bay's security blanket, in the way that Dawson was only Joey's.

In fact, if anything, Emmett is everything to Bay BUT a security blanket.

And I don't get the feeling that Travis is everything to Bay, or even could be everything to Bay. My impression of Travis is that he could be a safe person with whom Bay could explore her sexuality again, especially after what happened with Tank. But I do not see Travis ever being "everything" to Bay, even if they have a long relationship.

Also, here's another difference:

While Emmett turned his back on Bay in Season 4, he has NOT asked Travis to be Bay's friend. In fact, quite the opposite. Emmett has clearly marked his territory and told Travis to stay away from Bay.

Emmett had no smile or kind words for Travis, as he prepared to leave Mexico in that taxi cab. Emmett is royally pissed at Travis, and it shows.

Dawson was royally pissed at Pacey for falling in love with Joey and marked his territory. You're right about Emmett and Travis.. Emmett was PO'd about Travis being around Bay and told him to stay away from her and he did draw a line in the sand. Typical boys marking their territory.

I feel like this has turned into a DC/SaB conspiracy thread...lol. Which of course I think is really interesting, but way too early to tell. But if it goes that path, we know Travis and Emmett can never really be friends again (or at least not for like half a decade).

I did think that was an interesting Skype discussion that Emmett and Travis had tonight over Bay. And boy, Travis' faces were really funny when Bay was practically drooling over Garrett. I don't think Travis can stay silent for long.

Travis is going to get hurt in this. Bay whole-heartedly loves Emmett and so does Emmett. Travis may like Bay but he's let him get in the middle of a disaster waiting to happen. He will lose his friendship with Emmett if he's not careful and not get Bay

It's Travis's stupidity, if he does get hurt. He knows the connection Bay & Emmett have shared. I have a difficult time believing he is dumb enough to put his heart on the line and get involved, but it's obvious that is where the writers are going.

I wonder if it will permanently damage Travis's relationship with Emmett.

I always have the fear that the writers will jump the #Bemmett ship for good and put Bay with someone like Travis, as her one true pair. I know many would love that. I'm probably the odd one that just doesn't find this pairing interesting.

I wonder if ABC Family will play up the Travis vs. Garrett rivalry for Bay. I want Bay & Emmett to be together, but I'd rather see Bay & Garrett than Bay & Travis.

Can someone help me find the charm of Bay & Travis? I feel like we will see a lot of them, and I need to find some way to enjoy their connection.

Hahaha...I think we talked too much DC because your statement totally reminded me of this scene! LOL

I think it's much too soon to make predictions on anything other than if they will get together and how. And how they relationship could possibly be (not how or if or when it would end). We may not even get this relationship, but we cannot knock out Travis at this point. We have seen that he is a good guy, he can open up to Bay, and attempts to be supportive in all the ways he can. You may like Emmett more, but to say that she will always love him best, I believe, would be a mistake but could be more fully explored in the Bay Emmett thread.

Uggh I actually really dislike Garrett and have since day one. And I know the actor is supposed to be this semi-famous model, but I don't find him attractive at all. *shrugs* I think he's super one dimensional. I do wonder if they go forward with Travis and Bay, how they will write him off.

I can't help you find the charm of Travis and Bay, Amy...sorry. I think they'll be more of a slow burn. And they'll be controversial. People will love them or hate them. It depends on their dynamics. I've liked them as friends since the start and enjoyed their interaction, so I'm not that adverse to seeing them. And honestly, I don't love Emmett so wholeheartedly as a lot of you do so it makes it easier for me. I don't wish he was the star of the show and I don't mind not seeing him often. I loved him and Bay together and I adored their relationship, but at this point, Lizzy has really destroyed it for me so I'm looking and open to something fresh and different. And I think Travis could be fresh and different, not what all of Bay's other exs were.

Travis as a potential romantic hero is growing on me.

Initially, he definitely did come across as a not so bright and rather abrasive guy. I think a lot of that was due to his insecurity and defiance because nobody, starting with his family, had ever really expected anything good of him. Remember how floored he was when Melody said she could see him going to college and coming back to Carlton as a teacher? So the goofy/disinterested persona was his way of showing he didn't care what anybody thought. For example, he really liked Daphne at one point, but he still showed up to take her to the prom in a silly t-shirt with a picture of a tux printed on it.

So I think the way he seemed to only care about the food in Mexico was part of the same thing... he's used to assuming this persona by now as a defense mechanism, but he is doing it less often. I don't think it shows that he was more interested in the food than in Bay.

I agree that Travis's relationship with Mary Beth may have started as a matter of convenience/being flattered that she really liked him, and he definitely screwed up a lot in that relationship (as did she), but he ended up really caring about her and being really hurt when she ended the relationship. I think he learned a lot from that relationship, and it was important that he go through that as a stepping stone to a deeper, more open relationship in the future. In the same way, Bay has learned from her various relationships.

I think Ryan Lane can definitely project a deeper passion/longing... we've seen glimpses of that here and there. I think the actor can pull it off if the writers choose to go there for him and Bay. Whether the two will have any chemistry remains to be seen.

And yeah, Garrett... I don't like him. I don't like Mingo, either. To me, they both are the sort of glossy, insincere/ungenuine-looking men who are usually cast in soaps. No matter how much their scripts are made to make them seem thoughtful and caring, I just can't quite buy it.

Perhaps, for Bay, Travis could be some deeper and greater love than anything she has ever felt for Emmett, but for me, Travis could not be that.

For me, both Alex (Bay's boyfriend from the Galapagos) and Wilke have the potential to rival Emmett, but Travis could never come close.

But that's just me. Bay is a different person, and for her, perhaps, Travis will be all of that and a bag of chips.

If so, I won't be anymore interested in the storyline, than I was when Bay dated Noah, Ty, or Tank.

Alex and Wilke, like Emmett, both show a certain depth and carry themselves in a leading-man sort of way. For me, Noah, Ty, Tank, and Travis do not.

I do see depth to Garrett.

Physically, he doesn't wow me, but he is cute enough. He has a certain charm. I find Garrett more physically appealing than Travis.

In my limited personal experience, I have found that models have a lot more depth than people might think. I like how Garrett did not "write off" Bay because of a bad first date. I like that Garrett is open to learning new things, like his research on Salvador Dali, after Bay took him to an art opening.

So far, I like Garrett.

Bummer about the slow burn. That turns me off even more.

With my existing disconnect with Daphne, I truly hope the writers do not go with a Bay and Travis story. I will lose my connection to both girls.

I'm still head-over-heels in love with Emmett. I'll write more on that in the appropriate thread. Instead of Lizzy Weiss destroying the character, for me, she has liberated Emmett.

So I think the way he seemed to only care about the food in Mexico was part of the same thing... he's used to assuming this persona by now as a defense mechanism, but he is doing it less often. I don't think it shows that he was more interested in the food than in Bay.
I just didn't see much evidence of his interest in Bay. Oh, well.

I think he learned a lot from that relationship, and it was important that he go through that as a stepping stone to a deeper, more open relationship in the future. In the same way, Bay has learned from her various relationships.
I agree with all of that.

I don't agree with that.

I'll be surprised if Ryan Lane can convey deeper passion and longing. I don't see it in him.

I have seen a Season Three picture of Vanessa Marano taking a piggy-back ride on Travis, and it does appear from that still photograph that the two might have chemistry.

I guess we'll see what Ryan Lane does with the role.

I agree of your assessment on Mingo, even though the writers are trying to show a deeper side to him. For me, it doesn't come across as believable. It's too quick of. a shift from dormitory jerk to sweetheart. In the beginning, Mingo made a strong point as to why he did not want a relationship with Daphne. And now, not only has Daphne changed his mind, but he is being the absolute perfect partner to her.

I cannot suspend my disbelief enough to wrap my head around that 180. It's too much of a change, too soon, for me.

I like Garrett. I don't love him yet, but I like him.

I want Bay & Emmett together more than I've ever wanted any outcome in a fictional story. But if the writers have already decided that they will never allow Bay & Emmett to reunite again, then I would not be unhappy with Garrett. I would find his relationship with Bay intriguing.

I am bored by Travis's potential romantic relationship with Bay. I hope the writers do not go there. I would much rather see Travis be a good friend to Bay and a brother to Emmett.

Bay has yet to have a lasting male friend. Daphne has one in Emmett. I'd love to see Bay have THAT kind of relationship with Travis. I hope Bay will insist on that, when Travis tells her his true feelings for her.

They have a cute little friendship going and Travis obviously really likes Bay. However, I think he should take some serious pause at making a play for her. She made herself pretty clear in yesterday's episode, she sees him as a best friend. Bay is a really strong woman and sometimes that's a little too much woman for one man.

I think he will take pause. I think it will be accidental when she finds out. Maybe not woops I told someone and they told you, but more like a bubbling of feelings. I really feel like Travis is act first think in length later. Right now I think he believes he'll just be her friend, but that won't last. And we do know that Bay likes guys that swoop in and surprise her. So I could see it working.

And I'm now getting more and more DC flashbacks. This is seriously some Pacey Joey stuff going on *sigh* so I guess Garrett is AJ from right before Pacey and Joey got together. But of course this is a different show (same major guy involved but that means nothing).

If Travis was smart, he would not go there with Bay. He'll end up hurt in this and this thing with Garrett, is nothing more than a sexual rebound.
