Yep...but then, Belle never saw Rumple as the Dark One in the sense that that was his identity. He was always "just an ordinary man" to her, even in Skin Deep. On the other hand, for everyone else, Rumple was the DO first...last and pretty much always, even to himself, so it's no wonder he expected to live "down" to those expectations
