:lmao: at Ruby's expression when Belle referred to herself as a kept woman. Clearly she didn't understand the modern translation to that. Um, sweetie, you were KEPT in a dungeon/asylum for the past 28 years. You were KEPT prisoner.

No wonder Ruby was a little wary when she realized the sweater was Gold's and then demanded that Charming look out for Belle.

This was a very emotional episode. My heart is all over the place. But at the end I hope good things are coming our way. I have faith in Rumbelle and I know everything will be perfect at the end. And coincidentally I just saw this picture and I think that pretty much summarizes what I feel at the end of this episode:

Also, I think Gold took some big, important steps today in his development as a character. He’s on the right track now, I know we’re on the right direction!

HUGS to all. We survived!

I was actually quite pleased with the Rumbelle aspect of the episode. Belle still has her spunk, and Gold finally told her the truth ... because now she knows just why power is so important to him. Now she knows how he feels about things, about being trapped in the town and how he didn't want her to lose herself by going over the boundary.

For the first time in his life, he fought for his woman and protected her ... he showed up when she needed him, saved her. He also realized that he can't "keep" her - he still gave her the keys to her freedom, even told her that he's not even trying to get her back. She asked him out :D.

Boy, this sets it up for Gold to lose Bae and Belle permanently.

He killed Bae's mother - even though Bae may have forgotten about her or not cared, still...........You know Hook is going to get his "hook" into him and relish telling Bae what his father did.

Gold did tell the truth.......but he lost Bae's mother? No, he killed her. I honestly can't see how she will ever forgive him this lie and this action.

I don't see how this man is going to get a happy ending - and as for Belle, as strong as she is, I don't think she necessarily believes in True Love .......or in one. She'd be able to love again because she's able to move on. From her point of view, Gold can't make her happy........that is, I can easily see her feeling that way at some point. AS we can see, she has no problem turning her back on what is supposed to be her true love. She's strong - she doesn't need him to be happy.

To me, that wasn't a date, that was a "hey, maybe one day ..who knows when......we can have a hamburger", lol

Gold is a tragic figure. He can't escape his past no matter what he does.

He's now threatening Smee - the man can turn on a dime.

Actually, he said he LOST Bae's mother. He lost her because he wouldn't fight. He was explaining that he "lost" his son and his mother ... both by being a coward. Not exactly a lie since Bae's mother left because of his cowardice ... the woman on the pirate ship was no mother anymore. She was a pirate's woman. The woman of Rumpel's enemy and at that point in time, the weakness of an enemy.

TBH, I'm not entirely sure what you see that I'm missing. You were upset about the first episode of the season when we got that amazing kiss and the Sweetheart/Darling moments.

I'm not disappointed by tonight's episode. I didn't expect smooth sailing, but I'm not gonna lament what we've been given either. I'm still optimistic about Rumbelle and see tonight as a great beginning instead of the doom you seem to see in it.

I feel the same. I would be upset if they were done or if Belle would have stayed with him despite what he did. But she decided to take things slowly and gave him another chance because he was finally honest with her.

Yes, he said he lost her. He didn't.......he killed her (and I'm also referring to Skin Deep).

Please don't put words in my mouth. I LOVED the Rumbelle scenes in the premiere. At first I did not beyond the kiss because I was shocked, but after a few minutes, I relished them. My many posts about those scenes attest to that.

I didn't say I was disappointed in the episode, which I thought was fantastic. I said for me that it was not a good Rumbelle episode - for me, not speaking for anyone else. I'm sorry you think I see doom, but I'm allowed my opinion as you are. I'm not going to spend time moaning about it - the episode just aired tonight, after all.

We'll see what their future is ............

I guess I can relate. It's not doom or pessimism, it's just that this was a strong episode, as far as Rumple is concerned. The Rumbelle on it, from my point of view, exceeded expectations - beautiful scene in the library and the chance for a fresh start.

It is pre-curse Rumple's horrible choices that never cease to amaze me. Yes, we all know the man was out of his mind with hate, but to what extent will he be able to start from scratch with Belle, Bae, or anyone else, carrying around such heavy baggage?

Wes&FredFan 10-21-2012 07:42 PM

What he was referring to was what exactly cost him the marriage ... it wasn't because she threatened to leave so he killed her. What cost him both his wife and his son? Easy. Cowardice. That was the theme of the episode - Rumpel's cowardice. His wife hated it - he didn't fight in the Ogre Wars, he didn't fight for her on the pirate ship. He didn't fight against the darkness and follow Bae. He lost her the moment she ran off to be with Hook. Lost her forever when Hook lied and said that she was dead. We don't know how long it was before Rumpel tracked Hook/Milha down. Must've been after Bae had been transported so he was teetering on insanity. It was his cowardice that compelled Milha to leave him ... hence, he lost her first. She ceased being "his mother" when she wanted Hook to say that she was dead "years ago" and was in actuality living on a pirate ship. No, from that moment she was merely Rumpel's former wife who betrayed him ... but a mother? No. Perhaps she was the other half of Bae's genetic make-up, but she stopped being Bae's mother by her choice.

I don't see it as a deliberate lie, but clearly the writers hadn't come to that part of Rumpel's story yet when SD was written/aired. It all goes back to what Belle told him in the dungeon - "You're a coward, Rumpelstiltskin."

The library scene was exquisite and their chemistry is just remarkable. Gold loves Belle so much that it breaks my heart..... We'll see what the future holds.

I don't know the answer to your last question; sometimes that's not possible.

Wes, I thought Milha was a ** because she was more concerned about her status in the community than his welfare. Yes, she abandoned her son - and I agree, she's not really his mother, but nonetheless, when Rumple killed her, it was as a poor mother that he did so, not some stranger
