Dead Rising | A Southern Vampire Mysteries Inspired Roleplay

The concept of the dead rising has existed in cultures both great and small throughout history from ancient Mesopotamia to modern Western civilization. Passed down from one generation to the next, tales of malevolent demons and spirits were the predecessors of modern myth, centered around the idea that the dead were made undead and able to move amongst the living. So common was the idea of a supernatural being whose continued existence depended on the ingestion of another living creatures blood that it appeared across continents, from Eastern Europe to North America and back again, with an underpinning of belief in the face of little proof about their existence. Vampires, as they eventually came to be known as in the early eighteenth century, were once the subject of mass hysteria but were largely thought to be the stuff of fiction in modern times.

Until the day came that they weren't fictional anymore.

Fifteen years ago, the development of synthetic blood by a Japanese company was thought to be a scientific breakthrough that would herald new advancements in modern healthcare but the launch of TruBlood had a different outcome few could have foreseen. Vampires revealed their existence to the World, 'coming out of the coffin' so to speak, and altered the course of history by disproving centuries of superstition as fact. Their reasoning for the sudden proclamation, an united vampire front claimed, was simple; with synthetic blood widely available for consumption, no longer were vampires reliant on human blood for sustenance, and could once again exist alongside their living counterparts. Despite the prevailing lore that vampires were the product of some kind of magic, demonic or otherwise, the idea that they were merely sufferers of a medical condition that lent itself to a host of unusual side effects like an extreme aversion to sunlight and immortality began to spread.

Over time, vampires found a measure of acceptance that inspired other supernatural groups to begin organizing with the intent of claiming their place in society, but only werewolves have followed in the steps of their vampire kin as of yet, leading many to wonder what else lurks in the shadows still unknown..

Summary
The thin line between the human and inhuman worlds have never been more blurred, especially in New Orleans, Louisiana, as the city has a long history as a major hub for supernatural activity. Prior to the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, the Crescent City was home to a particularly large vampire population but both living and undead were displaced as a result of the disaster. A long recovery effort has followed, and though the city has gradually rebuilt itself from the ground up, the inhabitants have been slower to return. This has resulted in smaller, more concentrated areas of vampires, werewolves, witches, and the like where few humans reside with the most well-known being the sleepy suburb of Belle Chasse where the ruling vampire monarch of Louisiana has rebuilt their manse and the recently campaigning werewolf organization is based.

2) Human characters are equally as encouraged and desired as much as supernatural characters.
3) Don't feel beholden to SVM/True Blood character types - if it exists, feel free to write it, just link to more information or explain in more detail.
4) However, if you are inspired by SVM/True Blood, please limit the number of fae as they are quite rare characters in universe.
5) Feel free to bring characters back from other supernatural roleplaying games if you think they would fit in the game.
