It's an old 1980s show starring Angela Lansbury, who plays Jessica Fletcher. She's a recently widowed English teacher from a small town called Cabot Cove in Maine, whose husband had recently died. Many of her friends and family members, including her nephew, encourage her to take up writing as a profession, even though she's never written before. She does have a knack for storytelling and loves murder mysteries and detective stories, so she becomes a writer and quickly finishes her first mystery/detective novel, which is published under her initials, J.B. Fletcher, to hide the fact that she's a woman. Her first novel becomes a huge hit and she becomes a successful writer of mystery and detective novels. But her career as a mystery writer also ends up putting her in the path of real life murder mysteries which she often has to aid the police in solving, whether it's the Cabot Cove Sheriff's Department, or the NYPD when she begins teaching college classes in mystery writing in New York City. The character of Jessica Fletcher is partially inspired by the detective character Miss Jane Marple, created by Agatha Christie, as well as Christie herself, as Jessica is a mystery writer as well as a detective. Angela Lansbury actually did play Miss Marple in a movie once, 'Agatha Christie's The Mirror Crack'd.' __________________
