Jon sent him there (as Lord Commander) to become the new Maester since Maester Aemon died, and the Citadel has a gigantic library and they're hoping to find more info on dragonglass and the White Walkers there.

I would assume those with dark magic, I always considered the library like the one in Hogwarts, some books are just more dangerous to learn the knowledge of.

Maester Luwin said though that learning magic wasn't something that was real?

That thousands had tried before and it just didn't work. While it would be cool, I don't want Sam to suddenly be like "I'm going to be a badass who will be the exception."

That's fair enough.
I didn't remember that about magic, but with Melisandre and all those that follow the Lord Of Light being able to do some magic, it wouldn't be too far off that Sam could've learn something

The Lord of Light magic is so weird though, I'm still not quite sure where it stems from, if it is just the religious aspect like with the faceless men. It hurts my head to think about.
