I'm at the part where they get "engaged". I can see how Sansa fell for him in that scene, and she was so young. But yeah, first bad move.

She was very naive, and at first Joffrey didn't seem so cruel, just a spoiled brat as would be expected of a prince

Yeah, she was so sheltered. And young. And I don't think Catelyn and Ned expected to see her thrust into the political world so early, or they might have tried to prepare her.
