He’s also happy about the last book being expanded into two films. “I think they are two distinct stories. I think the objectives are very distinct. One is about getting Peeta back and one is about revenge, which is why I think they easily separate out. It allows us to explore what we need to explore within each of those stories instead of jamming them both into one.” - Francis Lawrence in SciFi Magazine (Dec 2013, page 45)

“[Peeta] is in less of Part One, obviously like the book, but there are appearances and then the final appearance is pretty striking.” - Francis Lawrence discussing Peeta inclusion in Mockingjay Part 1 due to his lack of physical presence in the books.

Director Francis Lawrence tells Us “we hunted for cool new locations in Paris and Berlin” to serve as stand-ins for the Capitol. “We’ll really get into the streets, where there are some powerful action scenes. The idea is the Capitol is the new arena.” - Us Weekly

QUESTION: One of the most special parts of the series to me is Katniss’ deep connection to music in the novels. Are there plans to feature Katniss’ musical interactions with the mockingjays in the coming films? (i.e. will she be singing “The Hanging Tree” like she does in the novels?)

I don’t want to give anything away, but I will say it’s one of my favorite scenes in the book.
- Francis Lawrence on "The Hanging Tree".

QUESTION: In CF you have already managed to show the Capitol "behind the cameras" with the added scenes of Plutarch, Snow and his granddaughter (excellent touch, by the way). In Mockingjay, how do you plan to achieve this balance of what Katniss can and can't see, does and doesn't know, specially now that she's so excluded in the far, underground District 13?

Well we will be taking the same approach that we did with Catching Fire in terms of world growth. Like the scenes with Plutarch and Snow that did not existing in the book, there will be moments like that in Mockingjay, and even a slight more opportunity for that kind of growth because we've split the book into two separate movies. So there should be plenty of surprises for people that really know the books. What I WILL say is the rule for us, because the stories are so Katniss-centric, that whenever you cut away, it always has to be about Katniss. Either somebody talking about her, thinking about her, or seeing something that has happened or is happening because of her. It always has to be connected to Katniss, even if she's not there.
- Francis Lawrence

Mockingjay goes even deeper and darker into the level of mental trauma the Capitol tries to impose. Lawrence is keeping that in there – a lot of it. “To me Catching Fire is the beginning of it, where you start to see that damage and it only gets worse,” Lawrence said. “Obviously if you know Mockingjay, you know stuff is done to Peeta and so there’s a lot more exploration of that.” - underwire.com interview with Francis Lawrence

Sam Claflin bonded with Stef Dawson over Twitter

Sam Claflin bonded with his 'Hunger Games: Mockingjay' co-star Stef Dawson over Twitter before they met.

The hunk plays District Four tribute Finnick Odair while Dawson stars as his love interest Annie Cresta in the adaptation of Suzanne Collins' trilogy, and after casting was announced he was keen to speak to the actress online before they met on set.

Claflin told Digital Spy: ''We got in touch via tweet immediately when the news broke.

''The moment she set foot on the 'Mockingjay' set, the two of us are like best of mates. She's great.''

Although Dawson's alter-ego Cresta was reaped to participate in the 75th Hunger Games, shown in 'Catching Fire', an older tribute volunteered to enter the deadly Games in her place, but she has a bigger part in the follow-up which is split into two films.

Woody Harrelson saved Jennifer Lawrence's life on movie set

Los Angeles - Woody Harrelson saved Jennifer Lawrence from choking on the set of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2.

The 52-year-old actor reportedly performed the Heimlich manoeuvre on the Oscar-winning actress when a vitamin got stuck in her throat on the set of the science-fiction adventure movie.

A source said: "Jennifer had just downed a handful of her daily vitamins, swallowing them with water, but one got caught in her throat. Suddenly she started gagging, gasping, pointing at her throat as her face turned bright red. Everyone around her froze, not knowing what to do.

But when a crew person screamed, 'Help,' Woody quickly ran up behind Jennifer and gave her a swift, hard slap on the back. When that didn't help, he wrapped his powerful arms just under her chest, gave two quick, strong squeezes, and the vitamin popped out of her mouth."

The blonde beauty thanked her co-star for saving her life and admitted she was worried she was going to die.

A source told the National Enquirer that she was overheard saying: "You literally just saved my life. I really couldn't breathe... I really thought I was gonna die right there."

Well when I see anything about the National Enquirer in an article, I tend to lean towards not real. ;)

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay’ filming winding down in Atlanta, at Swan House this week

After spending months shooting in and around Atlanta, GA, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay is finally winding down.

the shoot is expected to be completed by April 18 but first they are returning to one of the locations featured prominently in Catching Fire – The Swan House.

According to the Atlanta History Center’s website, the house will be closed through April 20, presumably for filming.

Swan House and the surrounding property will be CLOSED April 6-20, 2014

Last week Mockingjay spent several days filming at the OFS site in Norcross which they turned into a soundstage compete with stacked shipping containers for a giant green screen.

Check out a few photos from the Norcross shoot below and be sure to let us know if you spot Mockingjay at the Swan House!
