“Look at me, love,” he said before chuckling, seemingly amused by her obvious discomfort. She shook her head once, her eyes focused on her lap. She didn’t have to see what was going on. She could hear the way the girl’s pulse raced.

“No,” she replied, still shaking her head.

“I said look at me, Caroline,” he hissed and his tone was harsh and cold as it often was. She found herself looking up out of fear, tears blurring her vision. “That’s it.”

“What am I looking at?” she asked and her voice cracked. She knew exactly what she was meant to see.

“Just a taste,” he called over to her, his lips quirking into a slight smile.

“Please don’t,” she whimpered, trying not to look at the girl’s neck. She knew what he was doing. He was tempting her just as he always did. She always inevitably gave in.

He only smirked before biting into the blonde’s neck. Her eyes were fixed there until her own gums began to ache. He pulled away, his mouth dripping with that delightful crimson and she moved to him with unsteady feet. He pulled her to him, bringing her mouth to the other side of the girl’s neck. He held her there, his lips against her ear and he said what he always did. His voice and all that damn scarlet drew her in until she latched onto the prey before her. It was always frightening the moment the victim became prey rather than a person.

But she hardly remembered when his lips were against her neck like that and she never imagined anything could taste sweeter.
