He wanted to be with his brother at that point but once again in the 70's flashbacks they seem to have been at odds because Stefan sent Lexi to NY instead of going himself and Damon seemed bitter.

I don't understand anymore the chronology of this relationship, why and when they are fighting....

Quite. If the had apparently forgiven each other in the forties, why in the pilot was there such animosity?

I call bad storytelling. Unless the writers can prove between now and the end of the show that it made sense and was part of the story since S1.

The writers does not know what was going on in earlier episodes - they haven't watched them and JP can't remember
