PS question

In Photoshop, I had a black and white logo. I used the magic eraser and made the white transparent. How do I save it so that it stays transparent. For instance if I want to put it on any color backround, it will work?

in vector format or something?

thanx

I think it should stay transparent if you just save it normally

Saving it as a normal Photoshop work file will preserve transparency. For the Web, doing it as a GIF 89a or PNG is usually the way to go.

It will only let me save it as jpg, psd, raw, tiff ect There is no gif or png

Instead of File\Save As..., use File\Save For Web... and it'll be there.

I tried that, but when I opened it in something like PSP 7 or word, it shows up with a backround. Is that supposed to happen?

Headhunter 03-21-2004 08:32 AM

Hmm, can't say about PSP, but with Photoshop there is a Transparency option for GIF images under File\Save For Web... that can be checked (and is, by default).

Word isn't a great place to play with graphics; a desktop publishing application like Quark is better for that.

hey headhunter. I appreciate so much you helping me with this. Something isnt working right, maybe it is the way I explained it that is causing the confusion

I need to order t-shirts for my organization and I have a logo that is black and white. the backround is white and the actual words are black. I need to make that image a vector image so that I can email it to the people who I am buying the shirts from so they can put it on the shirt.

Hope that helps. And again I appreciate it

It's all good.

The way I've always done things like that, is to open the raster (pixel based) image up in a vector illustration program, and redraw on top of it with vector tools (mostly the Pen tool).

Is that an option?

If not, I found a possible solution that I'm testing out, will report on that later...

Lauren879 03-22-2004 08:05 PM

what do you mean re-draw over them with vector tools? Sorry

If you mean drawing over it, there are some parts I wouldnt get exact

Headhunter 03-22-2004 10:11 PM

Yeah, drawing over in vector tools...

Wanted to test this before mentioning it, but I don't have the hard drive space to install Flash...if you have Flash and the image stored as a JPG, this may be helpful.

Lauren879 03-23-2004 08:33 PM

Sorry, but do you think you could elaborate on that?

I am not very experienced with PS

Headhunter 03-24-2004 06:57 AM

Which, you mean the provided link? If so, all of those steps are the options you use within the respective programs (Flash, then Photoshop).

Do you have instant messenger? AIM? Can I im you? Might be easier

Almost never home; if you see me posting before some rediculously late hour like 4am, I'm probably at school behind a firewall.

What exactly is the problem? I can try to walk you through it step by step.
