Thanks so much, Sherry! I really hope we'll be fine soon but my bf has no voice anymore and I hope I'm going to keep mine!

Ria should be okay from what I saw on Facebook She just told us at the beginning of the week that she might be a bit MIA this week because of the holidays She for sure will be back for the count today.

And you're okay, Sherry?

Yes I'm fine, Kris.

I'm glad Ria's ok. You concentrate on getting well soon!

eta - sorry I didn't notice the thread number, either.

I will I promise... Although NYE really is done for this year and that so sucks! You can't imagine. 2014 was supposed to be a lot better than 2013 healthwise.

Great to hear you are fine!

You've still got a few days of 2013 remaining. Maybe you'll be completely recovered by 2014!

I guess I won't since it started yesterday... And with the medication I have to take because of my other illness such a flu normally last about two weeks.

Kris is right, I'm better now I just have been busy with Christmas. And I feel better now, I didn't really have the flu though, I had a cold but it's pretty much gone now.

I did know what a Raclette was either Kris. Though I knew I had heard the word before, so I learned something new as well.

I have to work NYE since they changed our holidays at work and we no longer get it off, but I get new years day off. But after work I'm going to a party with a fellow co-worker.

You're not a fan of shrimp Kris? I love shrimp. Grits on the other hand are hit or miss with me, if they're flavored right I can do it.

Ria, sounds like an awesome day! Where did you went for dinner and what did you have to eat. I saw a few pictures but couldn't place everything...

Besides, what did you get for Christmas?
We had Christmas dinner at home which is what I took the photo off and it was turkey, pierogies, rolls, brussel sprouts with bacon, lime jello salad with cranberry pudding for dessert.

I got a Nook HD, Sea of Monsters Blu Ray, The Host Blu Ray, Time turner necklace, Origami owl locket, gift cards, some money, a Yoda ornament and a few other ornaments...I think that's everything, I feel like I'm missing somehting.

I have to go back to work tomorrow. Going to miss my time off.

I guess for me it's still a cold as well and today I feel a lot better than yesterday But my bf is worse... He has a laryngitis, which means no talking at all. Wow, it's so quiet at home.

Cool So it's not very common in the States to do Raclette?

Working on NYE? Oh no... That's sad. But hey, at least you're feeling good again. And having New Years Day off is awesome, too. Isn't it a holiday at yours? Here it is at least.

That Christmas dinner of yours sounds amazing!

You got a Nook! I would love to have one as well, had a look at it when we were in Florida and I'm so jealous about it. But a Nook isn't available here And all the other gifts sound awesome, too

Glad you're feeling better Kris, but sorry for your bf. I only had a cold but I was losing my voice on Christmas and Christmas Eve, it wasn't fun.

No, I really don't think so, at least not that I know of.

I know, every other year I've worked there we've gotten it off, but this year they changed it, I'm not sure why it's not counted as a holiday anymore, but it sucks. But yeah New Years Day is a holiday.

Yes, technically I already had a Nook. I got the Nook tablet 2 years ago because I wanted an e-reader and a tablet, but it was more limited in terms of the tablet stuff. Like the internet browser was a B&N's own where you could only open up so many windows, couldn't do tabs, and you were limited for the apps in the B&N store. Now the HD one comes with Chrome and you get the google play store so you can download any type of app in there, it's much nicer and closer to a tablet. I already like it a lot more, plus the screen is very crisp.

What about you Kris, what did you get?

I bet it wasn't, Ria... I never lost my voice in my whole life and I hope it will stay that way

I recall that you got a Nook some years ago and that you were absolutely happy about it! So cool that I got to get a look at the Nook you got back in November. It really looked great and I loved what it was able to.
You know, I consider getting a kindle paperwhite because I consider getting an e-reader... But I'm not fully convinced yet. I love books too much! I wish they'd sell the books and put the ebook for free with a dl code with it... Like Amazon does with CDs. But I guess that's just a dream of mine.

I got new boots, a scarf, a hat, perfume from Hollister, a cup, a dvd, a new handy case, candies, some stuff to eat, money and a few small items Was good, too.

And I hope that all of you are going to start into a great 2014 tonight! Only four hours and 15 more minutes for me in Germany

I have a Nook and I like it well enough, but it isn't the same as holding a real book in your hands.
Still, I have weak wrists and it can be tiring to hold a big heavy book sometimes.
E-books are a mix of pros and cons to me.

One of my favorite Christmas presents this year was a set of beautiful maps for the "Song of Ice and Fire" series. I wish I had wall space to hang them all in frames!
You could scroll down here and there's a video showing how they look: The Lands of Ice and Fire

Kris, I hope you and your bf get well very soon!

It's already 2014 for some people!!

I'm so with you about the cons and pros of ebooks! There are a lot pros but I just sooo love books and I guess I would have to buy both then, the real book and the ebook if I got an ebook reader

I had a look at the video and OMG, the maps look huge! But so beautiful! I guess you read the series already? It's one of the few series' I still have to read but that are part of my book collection already

Thank you

Yes, for some it's 2014 already... Unbelievable.

Don't get me wrong, I love my books too. I mean I work in a book warehouse. And if I'm being honest I think I've read like 5 books on my Nook, I mostly got it because I wanted a tablet, it was inexpensive, and I like to travel and it would be handy to have all my books with me if I wanted to read them. But I've saying the same thing as Kris for years, I wish books came with a code to get the ebook, I'm not going to spend $10 on a ebook when I can buy the paperback for the same price or a couple dollars more, I still love my books. The only ebooks I've bought are ones that are only available as ebooks or ones I got for free. I still buy my books.

Sounds like some good gifts you got there Kris. And those maps look amazing Sherry!.

Yes, I've read the ASOIAF books. Actually, I read them just last spring after watching 2 seasons of my son's Game of Thrones dvd sets.
And I read all 5 books in about 2 weeks .. it was a marathon of reading, I did nothing else!
And then I subscribed to HBO so I wouldn't have to wait for Season 3 of GoT!

Kris, if you have the books, I encourage you to get them read. They're magnificent!
I've been doing a re-read with the Tor site - A Read of Ice and Fire.
Having the big maps at hand will add greatly to the experience, I think.

Ria, I'm the same with the Nook. I have only 3 books on it so far, but I do use it a bit as a tablet.
I NEED to start using it more for books, though.
My bookshelves are overflowing and books are stacked everywhere in my house.

Ria I couldn't have said it any better! I read one ebook on my iphone and that was TG The First Confessor! But it's only available as an ebook so no other way to read it... But besides, it will be books!

Am I allowed what what your job is, Sherry? When I get home in the evening I don't feel like reading a lot because I have to read a lot at work already so that you really want to do something else when you come home, you know?

I bet, Sherry, that you did nothing else besides reading. And you have got a son, a not too young son I assume when he's watching GoT? I didn't know that...
You're addicted now, huh?

I don't work outside the home, Kris. Nice, huh? When I had a regular office job, it was much more difficult to find time to read, so I really understand that.

I have 2 sons, actually, both grown and neither has ever married. Except for them, I have no family here.

And yes, I AM addicted to Game of Thrones and more so the Song of Ice and Fire books. I do mostly read SF/Fantasy now, though in the past my reading taste was more eclectic.
