OMG, I loved them. I always wanted them to get together as more than friends, because I loved their relationship so much. It was such a great moment when Cara was on trial and he kept on defending her.

And that episode, and those scenes, were very telling about Cara and Richard. You definitely got the sense that it wasn't entirely platonic (or at least I did). Then again, I always thought there was something that ran deep between them since she had helped him go back, and change the course of history. It didn't have to be romantic necessarily (though I wouldn't have minded that), but there was definitely a love between them.

At first she just wanted "something sweet" for the night, but she learned that this guy was different. I think knowing only that he was the new Lord Rahl or that he was a good guy wouldn't have been enough to make her join the team in Marked, she needed both sides of the story. Then she started trusting him more and more, Broken was a big milestone. We got to see some bonding moments but not enough imho. Though I don't mind that she had more scenes with Kahlan. I guess they wanted to explore this friendship more in season 3.

I always saw them creating a bond between Kahlan and Cara that was as strong as it was because they wanted to draw away from the kind of triangle that was created when Cara came on the scene. Plus, Kahlan really had no female friends or companionship outside of her sister, and the other Confessors, so it was interesting to have her develop a friendship with someone she wasn't really predestined to like.

There was something more complicated about Richard and Cara too.

Like you said, the connection they shared wasn't just that he was the Lord Rahl (at least not in the show), though that is how she tried to play it off. I think Cara was intrigued by the fact that someone, anyone, would stand up for her, and grow to care about her at all.

Agreed.

And I loved the tension she created by throwing it back in Kahlan's face, taunting her. I know, it wasn't nice, but it sure as hell was a lot of fun to watch.

But yeah, I think I finally started liking Richard when he started standing up for Cara, especially in Broken. I tend to call him an idiot, or useless, and I'm not the biggest Craig Horner fan either, but Care helped me to like him a bit more. I just wish they had a few more bonding scenes, because they barely had some. There was one in Reckoning (the worm eating - I know, a bit of a stretch), one in Marked (their little moment after Cara kills Trianna), one in Baneling (Richard is impressed by Cara's "other methods"), one in Fury (hunting lesson) and one in Resurrection (Lord Rahl talk). There are three others (one from Baneling, Wizard and Hunger) but they are shared with Kahlan too. And most of Broken, obviously. But still, the rest of the moments are just that, moments, or barely more than that.

Eh, shouldn't have thought about this, now I'll miss season 3 even more...
