I did look at the top 10 Australian actors, and was glad to see her on there. Hopefully she can break into the American entertainment industry.

Yeah, I think they pulled the article after it was posted because they decided to make it the cover story (!) of the next issue. Anyway, I typies for you guys. :) (BTW, the Hugh Sheridan that is quoted is the guy that was in the pap pics of Jess and Craig from 2009 that were posted a while back.)

And yes, this is the kind of thing that makes news in Australia. :look:

WHY JESSICA MARAIS QUIT

Marais's co-star Hugh Sheridan tells WHO why she quit

Jessica Marais's Packed to the Rafters co-star Hugh Sheridan has revealed the actress was under pressure from her US management company to quit the hit drama series for Hollywood.

After signing with United Talent Agency in October 2009- the firm responsible for driving the high-wattage careers of A-listers Jennifer Lopez, Johnny Depp and Harrison Ford- the dual Logie-winner, 26, was being strongly encouraged to try and make a serious attempt to win exposure and success in the US.

"Her management over there has been putting pressure on her for a while to make her move," Sheridan, a close friend of Marais, told WHO. "When you're female there seems to be more of a pressing need to get over there when you're young and make an impact, whereas guys have more longevity in making a career over there. But it was definitely a hard decision for her to make."

Since graduating from NIDA in 2007, the Perth-raised Marais has wasted little time making her mark- as evidenced by lead roles in Rafters, the feature film Two Fists, One Heart, the US fantasy series Legend of the Seeker, and the upcoming horror movie Needle.

"It's time for her to go and share her talents with the rest of the world," says her Rafters co-star Rebecca Gibney. "She's got what it takes, she's going to be huge. Even though she doesn't believe it herself, we all do."

Both Sheridan and Gibney are confident the "strong bond" Marais shares with her fiance and on-screen love interest, James Stewart, 34, will survive the challenge of a long distance relationship. "They're incredible together, they're the best of friends, and they will be fine," says Gibney.

A cover story? That's pretty cool.

And thank you for typing up the article. I am pretty surprised at the suggestion that it's not her idea to move to the US. :look: Though, if I think of how successful she's been in Australia, it would make sense that she'd be more willing to stay there. Especially when the transition may not be fruitful.

SaraHoo! 02-18-2011 01:46 PM

:look: Who knows if she is lucky enough and becomes a breakthrough in US :D

Burn Our History 02-18-2011 04:53 PM

That'd be nice for all fans, I think. Because if she does American films, they're more likely to be released internationally, thus we get to see her beautiful face more often. :)

Well, Australia has a pretty complicated love/hate relationship with its showbiz expats. We tend to give them a hard time until they "make it", and then we're allowed to love them again. The idea that she was pressured to move to the US is going to make her sound more sympathetic than "she's sick of Australia and being on a show that a lot of people really like" (not that I'm suggesting this is what Jess is thinking). And people are really, really attached to the Rafters- when one character died last year, it was all over the media. (The actress was also moving to the US). Jess has been giving a lot of interviews lately where she said she was happy to stay in Australia, she had no sense of needing to rush over to Hollywood, so I guess people are also surprised, even though in hindsight she would have already known she was leaving and was just trying to keep it under wraps).

I think Jess will be fine, if she doesn't find work in Hollywood she will always have a place on Australian TV.

Here's a recent pic :)

That makes a lot of sense, actually.
I mean, her Australian fans have allowed her to have the kind of career she's had. And she definitely doesn't want to alienate them.

And I love that pic. Girl is just too gorgeous for words.

She looks gorgeous. :sigh: My favorite is that 3rd to last pic.

:thud:. Thanks for the scans/images .

Hopefully the buzz around her right now in Australia will translate well when she makes the move to the US.

sprezzatura 03-04-2011 06:44 AM

I hope so too .
She deserves all the sucess and praise that she has gained.

SaraHoo! 03-04-2011 04:04 PM

Hopefully :sigh: Look at those :thud:q

 And, really, I'd like to see at least one person from that cast just break out and do great things. Especially one of the Aussie cast members.

sprezzatura 03-06-2011 04:29 AM

Yes, I agree. The Aussie cast that were in the show definitely showed their potential in the craft. And hopefully like Tabrett, Jessica will get an American aired series soon enough. To start integrating herself if she still wants to work over there.

Burn Our History 03-06-2011 02:28 PM

Now, what is the show Jess has been on for awhile classified is?
It sounds like it's a sitcom meets a soap opera, but I could be wrong. :look:

sprezzatura 03-09-2011 08:42 AM

It's called 'Packed to the Rafters'.
I think you've got the genres right because I tumblred it one night and a major character had just died.

Burn Our History 03-09-2011 05:30 PM

I wonder how the work she has done in Austrailia will impact the kind of work she's done here. :look: Like...here, there is a different between film, tv, and soap operas. Most actors don't work their way up. I can only think of one star who's recently done all three, and that's James Franco.

So if just is doing a soap/sitcom now, I wonder if that will make her more or less appealing for roles outside soaps or tv here?

I don't think it will make any difference really; US casting people don't care about work done outside the US. Anyway, soaps in Australia are not like US daytime soaps- they air in prime-time and tend to have higher production values and somewhat less ridiculous plots. It's not as big a leap to go from appearing on them to "quality" shows. In any case, the show Jessica was on is not really a soap as such, it's a comedy/drama a bit like "Brothers and Sisters" or "Parenthood".

A lot of Aussies working in Hollywood now have started on soaps: Isla Fisher, Ryan Kwanten, Liam & Chris Hemsworth, Melissa George, and of course our beloved Craig :)

Burn Our History 03-10-2011 07:31 PM

Hopefully Jessica will have the same luck that they have. I really don't see her as having a huge problem, because she's got the look and the talent. I know it doesn't make her a shoe-in for roles but it certainly doesn't hurt.

waterflower 03-17-2011 08:10 AM

Wow!!! :thud: She is gorgeous!

Burn Our History 03-17-2011 12:44 PM

 And the fact that she is definitely works in her favor. I mean, there are a lot of gorgeous women in the business, but I think there is something unique about her beauty. She's not just another pretty blond. There's just..something more...

sprezzatura 03-19-2011 02:28 PM

She's also got some serious talent. Which given some people in the acting industry lately is definitely a leg up.

Burn Our History 03-19-2011 02:53 PM

And not just "lately" either. :look: In general, I don't feel like actual talent is as appreciated as other factors. Luckily, Jess is the whole package so she could really work any angle she'd need to to get roles.

sprezzatura 04-14-2011 04:34 AM

Does anyone know if she's managed to get anything yet, since she's left Rafters?

Burn Our History 04-15-2011 06:05 PM

As far as I know, the really hasn't been anything on her. But I suspect that there's not as much news that's easily accesible here. I am sure it's out there, but I would be hardpressed to find it. :look:
