I was so shocked when Raven told him there wasn't actually an escape pod

I felt bad for him, since he didn't really know what he was volunteering for

It seems to me that Bellamy and Raven are the ones who have made an effort to include him and let him know that they still value him. Which, considering the history of both those dynamics, is quite ironic.
