And I'm still working my way through Brooklyn Nine Nine. After the Witcher and finally starting Stranger Things - still only watched the first season - I needed something light. And can't stop laughing so already on season 5.

Noticed in the last thread someone posted trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 - I'm excited for that one.

The last Harry Potter book just became available at the library so I'll soon finish my reread of that series. Though I should be finishing the Only Plane in the Sky for my book club. But since I'm only 10% through and we meet next Tuesday...not likely. Cause it's long. I just realized 10% may not be the best context.

I love Emma! I was just telling my brother's family last night about an audible version I listened to that has a narrator but then different people for the dialogue of the various characters. They have an upcoming road trip to Mexico so we were discussing books they could listen to for the drive.

That sounds awesome! I feel like doing the voices is actually super relevant for this book because there's so much dialogue. I've actually never read Jane Austen before (Emma is my favorite based on movies) and it's been interesting to see how much she conveys through the characters' voices. You know how they always say writers should "show, not tell?" I feel like she's showing so much of the characters' personalities with the dialogue. Like Miss Bates babbling for two straight pages or something. Austen barely has to explain to me what Emma thinks of Miss Bates because I can feel it in the way she's presenting her.

I wish all audio versions of books did this. But I recognize that requires more money and work. I used to hate audio books. But lately have gotten into them more. I find I prefer female narrators just because a woman doing a man's voice doesn't bother me as much as a man trying to mimic a female voice. This one book I've been listening to lately the narrator does several men's voices deeper than his own. That's weird too. Like he's trying to make this extra distinction.

Jane Austen really does write wonderful dialogue. Miss Bates is amazing. I've read Pride and Prejudice, Emma, and Northanger Abby. Some day I'll get to the others.

Funny story about the movie Emma - the Gwenyth Paltrow version. I saw that several times in about a year's time when I was in high school because my mom kept forgetting we'd already rented it and watched it. Like she rented and we watched it once. Then 2-3 months later she rents it again. I comment that she must have really liked it. She's confused and doesn't know what I'm talking about. I tell her we had just watched it a few months prior. She doesn't remember. So we watch it. Another 2-3 months go by and she rents it again. This time I just ask her if she remembers that we've already seen this. Twice. She does not. Then yet another 2-3 months go by and wouldn't you know...she rents it AGAIN. At this point I couldn't hold back my laughter as I asked her if she still didn't remember watching this movie. She didn't.

Also, it took me seeing Emma that many times before I realized Clueless was based on Emma.
