During a visit to Access Hollywood Live on Monday, the actor recalled how he and his wife – who starred on “Glee” with the late actor – learned of his passing.

“I’m sitting next to her and I remember, she just made this huge gasp,” he said of his wife’s reaction to the news of Monteith’s death on July 13.

The 42-year-old star wasn’t quite sure what to make of his wife’s initial reaction.

“I didn’t know if one of our family members had passed,” he explained. “But then she told me [what happened] and then [she] was just trying to reach out to people.”

Those people included her “Glee” co-star (and girlfriend of Monteith), Lea Michele.

“I know she reached out, she reached out to [Lea],” Taye told co-hosts Billy Bush and Kit Hoover. “But as you can imagine, she’s going through some stuff.”

On the Fox series, Idina played Lea’s onscreen biological mother.

I know Lea has a lot on her plate right now, but I'm sure she appreciated Idina being there for her.
