Honestly their chemistry was weird. I never thought that Matt and Jen were a good match. when I watched Friends I always thought that maybe Chandler and Rach would hook up because I loved how close Jen and MattyP were.

I don't exactly remember when I did, but I do remember preferring their dynamic to Ross and Rachel's (though I did enjoy R/R's friendship moments).
I used to prefer all of the R/R moments in the later seasons, but now I feel the same way you do. I think Ross and Rachel were much better suited as friends who loved their kid, and Joey and Rachel would've made a really loving, compatible, fun couple.

Hey, I'm sure in the "Joey" universe, even though it got cancelled, she visited him a lot
LOL! If Jen had guest starred on the show, I definitely would've watched that episode.

Though I do think Rachel started to like him eventually, not just lust after him.
I think so, too. There's that moment of her in the chair looking scared, the look she got after Joey picked her up and moved her, how sad she looked when she saw Joey kissing Charlie, etc. I'd like to think she would've fallen for Joey if they'd had more time to date.

what I love about that ep is that they look just so coupley! Am I the only one who thinks that? I mean they always stand really close to each other & are really comfortable with each other
Nope, you're not the only one! That was the exact impression I got when I watched that scene of them standing together in the kitchen toward the end. I only wish Rachel didn't look beat up Still, there are other moments in the ep where they look like a couple (like when they share the coffee!), so

And for the look that started it all:

ITA, with what you've just said, Rachel didn't just lust after Joey, it was more than that bc they were such close friends already. & I definitely would've watched if Jen had guest starred on 'Joey'!

.....then why are you here? I mean, in case you didn't see the title of the thread, it's the Rachel & Joey there is a Rachel & Chandler thread here so maybe you should go post there. It'd be one thing if I had seen you here before as someone who supports the J/R friendship but just doesn't like them as a couple, but I don't think I ever have. So if you don't like J/R this obviously isn't the place for you.

It's ok, I like both pairings

I was watching the episode where Joey and Phoebe set Rachel and Ross up on bad blind dates, and Joey tells Ross that his feelings for Rachel are "over". I don't know if it was a case of Joey lying to spare Ross' feelings, or they came back once Rachel started to show interest.

I think in the time between Joey's crush on Rachel & her developing feelings for him, he definitely still had feelings for her the whole time. I think he just convinced himself so much that Rachel would never return his feelings that he buried them so deep & ignored them.

I agree, starryeyes. On a more meta level, I think that line was also written in to assure the fans that nothing romantic would happen (at least, not right away) because Rachel had recently moved back in. It's also possible that Joey's feelings had actually subsided, but when he found out about Rachel's crush, the feelings came back. Personally I think that once Joey fell in love with Rachel, he never really stopped.

I recently re-watched TOW Monica's Boots (Season 8) and I can't believe I forgot the J/R stuff in it! They act like such concerned parents with Dina about her pregnancy. At one point they've both got their arms crossed while they're talking to her; it's great. I really like this bit:

Quote:
Joey: (to Dina) So, what are you gonna do? You’re gonna have the baby and-and raise it by yourself…without a husband?! You can’t be a single mother alone! You’re gonna ruin your life!

Rachel: Oh, excuse me! Am I ruining my life?

Joey: No! No! It’s different for you. You’re so strong and together.
Aww. And I like how Rachel helps convince Joey that Dina can handle having a baby.

Oh ok, I could buy that. And I do agree that Joey never stopped loving Rachel.

Like a team! I mean, have they ever really fought? Like, had huge big blow-ups where they don't talk for days/episode(s)? I can't really think of any, because they always seem to agree on a lot of things, and be on the same wavelength.

Yes, ITA about them being a team. The only time they didn't talk for days was after Joey confessed his feelings, but that was more due to Joey feeling awkward and wanting to avoid Rachel. They almost always made up very quickly when they had arguments (spoiling their favorite books for each other, when Joey bought the boat, when they were sailing the boat, etc.). I think the only time they didn't fully reconcile was when Joey couldn't give Hugsy to Emma! Oh, Joey. But overall they got along very well with each other. I think they had one of the strongest friendships in the group by the end of the series

RJ have never had a serious arguement, but I think that's mostly bc Joey isn't an argumentative guy. The only time he had a serious fight with another one of the friends was with Chandler after he kissed Kathy.

& I so agree about the Dina situation, they just fit into each others lives so well. She was able to get through to him & make him happy & support his family at the same time. They were definitely on the same wavelength

And in turn, he was able to bring out the fun-loving side of her. And don't forget she got him to eat healthier They complement each other.

ITA. He was the most easygoing of the group and tried to keep the peace a lot. And I agree about his fight with Chandler. It was one of the few times Joey got furious at someone and stayed that way for a while.

Yes! I love when he tells Phoebe about the list he made of things he didn't like about Rachel - that he said he spent the whole night on - and all it said was, "She made me switch to light mayo." Then he turned that into a positive thing! I remember laughing at that line and just thinking it was funny when I first watched it, but really, it was a huge insight into his feelings for Rachel. Quite a turnaround from when he was helping Ross come up with her flaws in Season 2!

I love Joey's list of things he don't like about her! it's so cute! And ITA about the way it contrasted the list Ross made about her in his list in season 2!

& ITA about Joey being an easy going guy as well, he doesn't get all worked up about the little things. That's part of the reason why he's my fave characters. & I definitely think he mellowed Rachel too

Oh yes. And then, they were also so strong that he made the happiest dog in the world get all depressed. His line "We love her, we can't have her" was so sad

Another thing is too is that he is usually so oblivious to everything around him. I love Joey, but he's not the brightest person.

Same here! He wasn't one of my faves when I first watched the series, but now he is. And you're right; I love that he had a calming effect on Rachel.

I knooow, that was so heartbreaking. When he says, "I really miss her," it gets to me every time I watch it But then there are moments like this that are so uplifting and sweet:

LOL, that is true. He was the simplest in the group, which made him less prone to getting worked up about stuff. What irritates me is that, IMO, the writers made him more ridiculously dumbed down than ever after he and Rachel broke up
