Good news that the ratings stayed even with last week. I was getting used to the small but constant decrease.

I actually expected it to go up because Castle already had it's season finale last week. Maybe next week now that both Castle and H50 are done for the season.

I overlooked the fact that Castle wasn't on air anymore.
So it's possible the potential slip was evened out but the lack of one competitor. Hmm. Let's see what happens next week, then.

Rachel and Bass!!! Nothing. Else. Matters.

Nice ending. Really nice. Nice birthday gift. Really nice.

Oh well, there is a grenade too. Not everything can be perfect.

Now I understand why Rachel and Bass were put on the same level in the last episode. So it could lead to this moment.

It's a very interesting moment between them because it's one thing to want to kill Bass, but it's another to want to kill him and herself. At least it looks like she doesn't care if she dies. And it has been this way since Rachel decided to go to the Tower. That's meaningful because it means it is far from being just about revenge. Rachel has said before that she feels bad for the terrible things she has done. That she would hate herself if she did it again and I don't think she was lying. So this moment is symbolic. It's like she feels she deserves to die as much as Bass. She hates herself as much as she hates him. Maybe that's the reason she didn't get the gun we know she has and just pointed the gun at him and shot. I'm not sure if she would be able to do this anyway. The grenade is much more radical, but she just pulled the pin and didn't throw it.

There is also the important detail of Rachel giving Aaron the book and telling him to turn the power back on. If all she wants is to kill Bass and he's there near her, then she wouldn't care about the Tower and turning the power back on. But obviously she cares and that's important for her too, I think. So that whole discussion between Aaron and Rachel in the last episode was Rachel being manipulative so Aaron could give up on saving the kid. She meant some of it, just like she did when she broke her leg and asked him to leave her to die and go to the Tower because that's more important.

I completely understand where Rachel's coming from when she blames Bass for Danny's death and Ben's death. It's his militia, his orders, his fault. But it wasn't exactly because of Bass that Ben died. Same thing with Danny. Obviously you never know, considering his state of mind (and the mind of the writers), but I feel that if Bass himself had a gun pointed at Ben or Danny, he wouldn't be able to kill them. Rachel blaming Bass is like some random woman that lost her husband and son because of the blackout blaming Rachel for their death. It was Rachel's idea, her decision, her fault. That's why I hope there will be a moment when someone or everyone is going to confront Rachel about what she's done and the consequences of it. We got very little of it until now. Charlie and Jane sort of did it, but that wasn't enough. Actually Charlie doesn't know exactly what Rachel did, she was confronting Rachel about leaving her family, which is something that should be more explored too. So it will be interesting when Charlie finds out the whole truth. Well, at least I wish next season would be much more about Rachel having to deal with the consequences of her actions than her relationship with Miles.

Gotta love when Bass sees Rachel and kind of forgets she is carrying a grenade with her and gets to admire her for some seconds. He seems happy to see her again. Oh Bass, you just can't resist, you love her. I know you do. Then he remembers she has a grenade and is terrified. I think he's afraid of dying, but at the same time I think he wouldn't mind dying because he doesn't like what he is now. It is similar to Rachel, he also hates himself.

Bass was great in this episode. Really liked his scenes with Randall. I just didn't like that Randall said "you need me" just like Rachel. Well, not exactly. Randall was completely desperate. But it's not the first time they show different characters with different personalities speaking the same words or the same way. It distracts me a lot. Signs of bad writing or lack of creativity.

If it wasn't for Nora, Randall would never know Rachel was going to the Tower. That's the impression I get. Randall wanted Rachel for something important and now it looks like he just gave up on her. Weird. Or maybe he was dealing with Bass before trying to get Rachel again.

Nora was great too. The actress is good and if she's given more to do, she can deliver. She had a nice chemistry with Bass in a scene that wasn't romantic at all. I was relieved to see that Bass himself didn't do anything really bad with Nora. After what Miles did to Rachel in the last episode, I thought we would see Bass doing something similar. Obviously the whole torture was horrible, but it's relevant that he didn't do it himself and just watched it briefly. That's an important difference between dark Bass and dark Miles. While Miles had no problem with physically hurting someone he cares about if that's necessary, Bass doesn't seem so comfortable about it.

That dinner between Nora and Bass reminded me a lot of Ben and Kate on LOST. He even asked her to put a dress and said she should remember that moment because the next weeks would be horrible.

It's funny that Jim is the mole. But it's funnier that Miles is surprised. And Miles has such a nerve to tell Jim to go back to his wife after what Miles did to them.

So it's not a robot inside the Tower. It's people. I still think it is something related to artificial intelligence (the article in the book says Aaron's invention is related to it) and nanotechnology. The first thing that came to my mind is transhumanism. Anyway, it looks like this show is going to places I never thought it would go.
