Possible Board Closure Discussion: Please Read and Respond!

After careful consideration, I think that it may be time to close this board. Our post counts have been declining over the past few months and we have very few regular posters. As you know, Fan Forum requires that we average at least 15 posts per day, with lower numbers than that leading to warnings and then possible closure of the board. I would prefer to go out under our own terms rather than be forced to close due to low post counts.

Please let me know what you think. I'd be glad to hear any suggestions or advice to renew interest here. Remember that to keep the board going, we need the commitment of a few regular, dedicated posters. As much as I love this board, please don't just post to "save" the board and then disappear again, because we'll be in the same position that we're in now if you do.

Originally, I wanted to keep this board running until we hit the 100k milestone, but after Fran stepped down as moderator and we weren't able to find a suitable replacement, I wanted to at least wait out pilot season in hopes that Liz may get cast in an exciting new show and that it would rejuvenate things around here. Sadly, pilot season came and went with nothing to show for it. Ever since Fran's departure, it's really only been me and Julie (whom I am eternally grateful for  ) posting here and we have struggled to make ends meet ever since - often relying on the help of co-moderators or posting sprees at the end of the month to get over the hump - and not even the Survivors I set up were able to attract many participants. I have been with this board since the very beginning and I would hate to see it eventually get shut down because we failed to reach the necessary posting requirements. After 8 years, I think we deserve to go out on our own terms if it has to come to this.

You have been a great mod, Alex. I have enjoyed chatting with you on the Off Topic thread. Unfortunately I can't chat too much about Liz because I haven't seen many of the shows she has been in. I will still be here if you decide to stay but I can understand why it might be a good idea to close the board.

Thanks, Julie. I have enjoyed our conversations too and I promise that we'll stay in touch on the Josh board if this one closes. Sadly, I think that many EM fans haven't seen many of the shows she's been in over the last few years. I still remember how busy our little board was during the Lost and "V" days. Even when "V" went off the rails during season 2, we were posting up a storm around here because we were INVESTED. Most of our regulars disappeared during season 1 of Revolution because they found it impossible to get into the show. Crossing Lines and Dead of Summer were such obscure projects, I doubt most Liz fans were aware of their existence. :(

Great. :D

It would help if Liz had social media. Posting tweets and Instagram messages are good ways of adding to the post count. I don't blame her for not doing so, though. I wouldn't want to do it if I were famous. It is too easy to get into trouble for an ill-advised tweet. :)

I have not been a regular poster in a few years. I did enjoy posting here with everyone.

I think it is always better to go out based on you own decision.

I haven't seen much of EM's projects since Revolution was cancelled. Therefore, I don't really have much to add to ongoing discussions.

Best of luck with what you decide.

It's been a while since I last posted over here, but there is some time left before the board is closed, so I have to say something because I love this board.

I like to have this little place to talk about and express/show my support and love for my favorite actress. So, it's sad to know the board is going to be closed.

But at the same time I understand why this decision was done. If there is not enough people interested in keeping the board active, then there's no point in keeping it open. And I agree it's better to do it this way rather than being forced to do it because of the post count rule.

I think there are devoted fans of Liz out there who love to talk about her and would watch anything she does, just because it has Liz. But I think these fans are mostly on Instagram or Twitter nowadays. I don't know if they know about this board or about :ff:. Or maybe they do know about it, but don't want to post here.

Speaking for myself, sometimes real life gets in the way. Like last year I was being quite active during the Dead of Summer period and I wanted to watch and comment about all the episodes, but suddenly I had to take a break from doing it because something really bad happened in my life.

I'm here since the beginning of the board, but I usually post when I want to post. I like this freedom. I prefer to post when I have something to say, when I feel I can add something. I'm not much of a chit-chat person, so I came here to talk about Liz and since this year Liz hasn't been on any project and is currently taking some time off, I don't have much to talk about during this break period.

Anyway, I'm going to miss this place. But I can say I had good and fun times posting over here. :D

Too bad. I was just starting to enjoy this place.

Sadly, I think message boards like this are slowly but surely on their way out. In my experience, most people prefer to talk about their favourite athletes, celebs and tv shows on social media platforms like Twitter and Tumblr now. I think FanForum is experiencing a record number of voluntary board closures this year (2 other long-running boards are currently going through the process) and a show like The Walking Dead ended up having it's board removed because it failed to reach the necessary posting requirements twice in 6 months. TWD has a massive online fandom, but it's fans are gathered in aforementioned places and simply can't be bothered to post on a message board like this.
