I think their friendship is great but I didn't like that Matt was compelled to forget what Elena did.

The time Elena started drinking too much and almost killed him, Nelly? I know but Matt did seem rather frightened. I think he could handle it eventually but the initial shock seemed pretty great. I bet he wondered why Elena was no longer feeding from him anymore seeing as it seemed like a regular thing that they started to do.

I just didn't like it because I think Matt is strong enough to handle it and I didn't like that now their relationship is also tainted by compulsion and lies.

In season 1 they had some great moments, when Elena was there for him when Vicki died.

True true

eventually Matt is able to handle things even if he's initially shocked by it. Elena could always tell what happened one day if anything.

That was a sweet moment

I know Caroline felt bad about it but I think at that moment Matt needed Elena. I don't think it had to do w/ still have feelings for her but more so that they were friends before they ever in a relationship together and he just needed his good friend then.

That moment is so sad, and beautiful. Elena was hurting in the worst possible way but when she sees Matt hurt, she goes over to comfort him. It was sad.
