It applies to both, of course. The particular quote is from a 2011 article so he's talking about the new one.

Music is very personal to me. It's what gets me through some days and I can always turn to it when I need to be picked up.

Same here. I don;t think I can live comfortable without music to turn to. I even like the classical stuff.
