The 25 best Gen-X films
19. Fight Club (1999) This late 1990s film, based on Chuck Palahniuk's novel, starring Edward Norton and Brad Pitt proved to be a massive hit with those Gen X outcasts or ones dissatisfied with their jobs -- even if they were good ones. Also for the film's portrayal of the overemphasis on consumerism that sprouted in the 1980s, and kept going well into the '90s. There's an element of deep-thinking asked of the audience -- something that became the norm among 1990s movies. The best characters from Gen-X films
19. Tyler Durden, "Fight Club" The "idea" of Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt) made for one of the most iconic Gen-X film characters of all time. This confident, yet neurotic and somewhat sociopathic, personality consumed our Narrator (Edward Norton). That was the point, Tyler Durden is the type of person an introvert or straight-laced individual might want to channel. An alter ego who has the potential to change one's life if not careful. At one time or another, a young Gen-Xer wanted to be like somebody else. Here's the link, https://www.msn.com/en-us/entertainm...xdA26g#image=8 __________________

From 'Requeim for a Dream' to 'American Psycho': 10 Great Movies Where the Protagonist's Psyche Deteriorates
'Fight Club' (1999) A cult-classic film that probably first pops into the mind when thinking about the deterioration of the self is David Fincher’s Fight Club. An existential crisis takes over the narrator (Edward Norton) as he develops a severe case of insomnia. The less he sleeps, the more distorted his current worldview becomes. His work becomes mundane and too predictable; his Ikea-filled apartment no longer fills a void, and his empathy reserves are nearing empty. The rejection of the capitalist "rat race" comes after meeting the suave Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt), where the narrator’s safe life is martyrized under Tyler’s eye-opening perception of the world. As the narrator loses himself in Tyler's anarchist teachings, Tyler becomes the all-singing, all-dancing leader of a rebellion. 26 Classic Movies That Were Box Office Flops
Fight Club (1999) Director David Fincher’s Fight Club is one of the most essential examples of a film that really took its time to earn a reputation as one of the most idolized films ever made. Even with career-defining performances by Brad Pitt and Edward Norton, the provocative, darkly comic satire took in just a little over $37 million, despite a budget of $63 million. 20 Movies That Nailed the ‘90s Grunge Aesthetic
Fight Club (1999) Fight Club is truly the humblest brag a movie can make on toxic masculinity while disguising itself as an action thriller. The twisted, violent, and gritty meditation follows an emotionally numb office worker who only finds meaning after launching an underground fighting and anarchistic political rebellion with the help of an ordinary soap salesman. Brad Pitt and Edward Norton are as charismatic as they are emotional in their roles as Tyler Durden and the unnamed, disillusioned Narrator. Directed by David Fincher, the movie has this trademark aesthetic that immediately douses the viewer into the world of fight clubs, rage emissions, and far-reaching schemes of destruction. Fight Club gained popularity and the cult status for making a purposeful commentary on violence, capitalism, privilege, and hyper-masculine physicality. 10 Best Dark Comedies of the 1990s, Ranked
Fight Club In the same year as the notorious Woodstock ‘99 fiasco, Fight Club became a cultural phenomenon through its provocative exploration of modern masculinity, consumerism, and identity. The film's portrayal of disaffected men seeking meaning through underground fight clubs and anarchist philosophies resonated with a generation grappling with societal disillusionment. Its twist-filled narrative challenged the audience's perceptions and became a topic of discussion and debate. It's the biting satire found in Fight Club that gives the movie a slight undercurrent of humor amidst its violence and machismo. Over time, Fight Club evolved from a controversial and divisive film into a cultural touchstone, celebrated for its dark, funny and subversive take on our consumer driven contemporary society. The 10 Best Love Triangles in Movies, According to Letterboxd
'Fight Club' (1999) One of David Fincher's best, according to many, Fight Club endures a fan favorite today. The movie follows two men (Brad Pitt and Edward Norton) who set up an underground fight club that eventually evolves into much more. However, their bond is put to the test when a fellow support group crasher (Helena Bonham Carter) catches Tyler's attention. Often praised for its commentary on consumerist culture — that got negative press upon release — this treasured film is definitely a memorable one also thanks to its characters; as it would seem, the odd love triangle between Marla, Tyler, and the narrator goes down in film history as one of the most unforgettable. 25 Movies From The '90s That Are So Good, If You Haven't Seen Them, Your Friends Should Shame You
If you still haven't seen these, you need to plan a movie night. 17. Fight Club (1999) Okay, this wasn't an instant hit, but I'm still including it because it was such a hit on home video. An insomniac (Edward Norton) finds himself living in squalor with soap maker Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt). The two men decide to form an underground fight club. Despite flopping with just $37 million at the box office and being dubbed one of the "most controversial films of the 1990s," Fight Club bounced back and found cult success with its home video release. Ten years after its theatrical debut, the New York Times called it the "defining cult movie of our time." Where to watch it: Stream it on Apple TV, or dig the VHS tape out of your dad's old stuff.
