I don't think we'll ever get one

17.16 "Ephemera" has a special feature attached to it. (its the episode they play roles in what happened in the past)

Other Times. Other Lives.

There are two stories or ideas going on in the episode - telling the story with the love letters & the flashbacks are using the NCIS characters playing those roles

It was a lot of fun for everyone to play someone new for a change. Even the crew loved putting the pieces of the past together.

The idea of the episode actually came from the writer/executive producer Chris Waild. He had bought a box of 'ephemera' for a side project, & when trying to come up with new ideas for an NCIS episode he got this box back out & started thinking about what if there was a case connected to a box like that. It all then came from that with it being a love story in the boxes that they go through, & the team gets taken on that journey too

McGee had a small flashback role because they didn't want to give away too much about who was the bad guy in the episode. Sean wishes he could've played it more though

Emily loved bringing in the Bishop/Torres feelings into another role & transferring what they've got going on with them & putting it into the feelings of these other characters

Mark says its incredible they put it all together still in 8 days (along with a whole lot of love for everyone involved in putting it together, its a credit to them)

Thanks for the next extra :)

It's impressive that they were able to shoot such an episode in 8 days

shinebrighterxx 09-23-2020 03:42 AM

they have an amazing cast & crew

florerr 09-23-2020 12:55 PM

I guess the last special feature is paired with season finale... ;)

Also i love the fact that Emily is also an Ellick fan

shinebrighterxx 09-23-2020 02:19 PM

They both seem to be a fan or in support of their characters being a couple. They also seem to film their special feature segments together as I've noticed it in past years too that they're together

I'm pretty sure it is but got three episodes left to watch so could be the other two. Its called "Hallowed Ground" though which to me does fit the finale episode. I also have a funny feeling I've already checked the final episode when I first bought the DVD & it was there but I just didn't watch it then

florerr 09-23-2020 10:52 PM

It's possible... I guess you will find out in no time at all... ;)

Yeah, they seem to be pretty good friends off screen as well

florerr 09-26-2020 12:55 PM

I started re-watching the season, since I realized that they (finally) started to broadcast it with Hungarian dub... :yay:

At least I have something to watch till the new season starts - hopefully - in November... :sigh:

shinebrighterxx 09-26-2020 06:12 PM

Enjoy  :D Glad they've finally done the Hungarian dubs for you

As predicted, the last special feature is attached to the final ep (& now I remember why I had presumed or checked it before - the title of the special feature gives away what its connected to :P)

Hallowed Ground: The Arizona

It was a nice surprise that this episode ended up being the finale, it worked quite nicely.

Gina Lucita Monreal (co-executive producer/episode writer) actually had this idea for years & it took a while before it fully came into fruition. Mark Harmon says there was a clock on the story, since there are so few WWII vets still alive. Frank Cardea says that when they taped this special feature there were only two survivors left from The Arizona, but when they started writing the episode there was four.

Gina didn't actually know much about the attack on Pearl Harbour, but she loved the research for it. She loves researching for her job in general. She says it affects & changes you as a person & loves that.

This is one of the first times they've had someone in their head for a part & actually get them to play the role. Gina said she heard & saw Christopher Lloyd in her head as she was writing the episode. It was a highlight of her career to see him play the role she wrote with him in mind.

Steven D. Binder praises Gina as a writer for the show: "Gina's fantastic in telling stories where you get into all the things you love about NCIS - the heart, the surprises, the twists, the gravitas. Her stories are... they turn on such simple moments of heart and yet, they're huge emotional experiences for people."

They didn't film at the actual site of The Arizona Memorial, that was all recreated/faked as they felt it was disrespectful to those who served for them to film it there pretending to do it. You see that Mark filmed those bits in front of a blue screen (or green screen as its called, but its blue looking at it).

Thanks for this :)

It makes sense that they wanted to honour the original heroes & their families :sigh:

It was actually weird to watch the first ep of the season with dub, especially that Torres' dub actor didn't sound like "Torres" at all for the first 10 or so minutes of the episode... The virus probably had/has a toll on him as well, and it took him quite some time to pick up "his character's voice" instead of sounding emotionally tired/stressed...

shinebrighterxx 09-27-2020 02:43 AM

aww that's a shame. Hope it continues to get better
Not surprised these times would take their toll on them though & it'd take a little bit to get back into character
