Me and Chelle have been talking about opening a separate thread to collect all the similarities present within the 3 NCIS spin-offs and JAG.

Under similarity we mean character traits, names, story-lines or even the re-use of the same episode name for example.

• The name Jethro in L.J. Gibbs (NCIS) & in A.J. Chegwidden (JAG & NCIS LA)
• Harm & Callen share the search for their fathers - became a Russian prisoner & returned to Russia - and the fact that they are unable to stay in a committed relationship...
• Mac tends to remind me of Ziva with always having an ongoing personal drama... Though Ziva is way tougher than Mac most of the time...
• Bud is like McGee in many ways, he's always teased by Harm & Mac and he's not really good with secrets...
• JAG has CIA Clayton Webb as Harm's best friend... He's like Fornell to Gibbs just in a much younger edition
• McGee & Deeks similar at least in their entries into the show. They still started off seeming more like a random character, before then changing.
• Sebastian seems to be a mixture of Abby & McGee

For me I find McGee & Deeks similar at least in their entries into the show. McGee of course appeared more often in S1 of NCIS before become a main character. But they still started off seeming more like a random character, before then changing. Deeks presumably was going to join from the start though too.

Sebastian seems to be a mixture of Abby & McGee to me

Good point about Deeks & McGee being a random returning character in the beginning...

I can see a bit of Eric as well in Sebastian... At least how he was originally against becoming a field agent and now he's sort of over achieving at it...

(I will add them to the OP too...)

All 4 shows share the same story line with someone or the complete team resigning at some point[/I]...
- in JAG: Mac leaves JAG for a commercial law firm during s3, and gets re-employed by JAG a couple episodes later...
- in NCIS: the famous s10 ending with Tony, Ziva & McGee resigning to protect Gibbs...
& in NCIS LA: - Hetty resigns a couple times, first in s2
- Callen, Sam & Kensi resign at the end of s2 to save Hetty
- NOLA: Pride leaving NCIS then returning later on

I tried to watch 2 more JAG episodes from s4 tonight...

I've completely forgotten about Bud's & Mac's messed up childhoods...

McGee had an ideal family while growing up compared to Bud's... And Mac has lost almost as much if not more than Ziva during the show's run.

Mac grew up with an abusive alcoholic father, was an alcoholic herself before the show's start. During the show's run she lost a husband, a lover and also had to say goodbye to her father... And that's till s4 (I'm still not done with the season...)

Deeks has the same computer stopping technique nailed down as Gibbs (& Torres) in 3x19 "Revenge"... :

While Kensi is worried about the pc uploading the information Deeks just shoots at it...

Yeah, especially with knowing that the LA team tends to care even more about high tech equipment...

Except for Deeks it seems... At least he's not throwing away smart phones...

Also JAG & NCIS LA seems to have the same mindset when it comes to case-of-the-week...

So many of Jag's episodes are focused on Harm's, Mac's or Bud's or A.J's personal life while there's some court case going on in the background... Oh, and you gotta love JAG's rescue mission episodes... Those episodes literally have nothing to do with Jag & courts...

It's the same with LA every now and then having a personal episode, or an episode which has pretty much nothing to do with navy...

Yeah, for some reason JAG & LA seem to have a similar mindset when it comes to cases...

... Maybe that's why AJ have been a recurring character in LA, while Bud used to pop up in NCIS...
