Steve Jobs Thread #1: We can't wait to see Kate as Joanna

Welcome to the first Steve Jobs thread!

Quote:
His passion and ingenuity have been the driving force behind the digital age. However his drive to revolutionize technology was sacrificial. Ultimately it affected his family life and possibly his health. In this revealing film we explore the trials and triumphs of a modern day genius, the late CEO of Apple inc. Steven Paul Jobs.
Cast:

Kate Winslet - Joanna Hoffman
Michael Fassbender- Steve Jobs
Seth Rogen- Steve Wozniak
Sarah Snook -Andrea Cunningham
Jeff Daniels -John Sculley
Katherine Waterston - Chrisann Brennan
Michael Stuhlbarg - Andy Hertzfeld
Vanessa Ross - Elizabeth Ramos

Tim Cook: Steve Jobs 'upended all of my assumptions in the very best way'
Apple CEO Tim Cook delivered the commencement address to the George Washington University's graduating class of 2015, in what was part-motivational life advice and part-Apple promotional pitch.

Cook uses his speech to implore the students to stick to their values and make a positive difference to the world we live in. "You have to find your North Star, and that means choices," he says. "Some are easy, some are hard, and some will make you question everything." As far as uplifting graduation speeches go, so far so standard.

However, Cook also gives some revealing insight into the early days of Apple, and his own great influence: Steve Jobs. "I met someone who made me question everything, who upended all of my assumptions in the very best way," Cook reminisces. "That was Steve Jobs."

He recalls how the "idealist" Jobs convinced him to join Apple back in 1998 when, far from the unrivalled global brand it is today, the company was "adrift and struggling". "I took the job and changed my life," Cook says. "It has been 17 years and I have never once looked back."

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Cook neglects to touch upon any of the company's more recent stumbles, choosing instead to exalt the "lifeline" that everything from iPhones to iPads offers people across the world. "Apple's products empower people all over the world: people who are blind and can have things read to them; people who are isolated by distance or disability."

But beyond the polished sincerity and inspirational soundbites, Cook also plays around with his audience. At the start of his speech, he quips: "Those of you with an iPhone, just place it in silent mode, and those of you who don't have an iPhone, please pass it to the centre aisle. Apple has a world-class recycling program." His parting gesture? He pulls out his own iPhone to snap a photo of the graduates.

21 facts about the new Steve Jobs movie: First teaser trailer released, release date announced
The tech world is buzzing about the new Steve Jobs movie. Sony Pictures had the rights to the film, and had a great director on board. But then Sony pulled out and Universal took over...And that's not the only hiccup experienced in the production. A number of big-name actors have been said to be considering roles, but then pulled out.

Whatever is causing these headaches, the new Steve Jobs movie looks set to go ahead and hit cinemas on 9 October 2015 with the first teaser trailer being released (see below). If you want a glimpse of how things are going on set, read our man on the inside's account: I was an extra on the Steve Jobs movie.

We can't wait. The 2013 Jobs movie staring Aston Kutcher met with a lukewarm reception (its IMDb rating is currently a paltry 5.9 and we've watched it - it's terrible!) but with the release of the teaser trailer, this one sounds like it might be decent. And the life of Steve Jobs deserves a proper film adaptation.

First Steve Jobs trailer shows Michael Fassbender as the Apple founder
The first teaser trailer for Danny Boyle's Steve Jobs biopic, the appropriately titled Steve Jobs, has arrived. The minute-long clip doesn't reveal much about the upcoming movie, but does give us the first glimpse of Michael Fassbender in character as the Apple boss, shot from behind as he prepares to stride out onto stage to deliver one of his trademark keynotes. Fassbender's joined by Seth Rogen, in character as Apple co-creator Steve Wozniak complete with big bushy beard, Kate Winslet as Joanna Hoffman, and Jeff Daniels as former Apple CEO John Sculley.

Leaked emails from Sony Pictures showed that Steve Jobs had something of a torturous development process. The movie was originally in production at the studio, with David Fincher set to direct, but it slipped from Sony's grasp to Universal in late 2014. Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle is now at the helm, working with a script written by West Wing creator and The Social Network writer Aaron Sorkin. With its production problems apparently ironed out, and an accomplished cast in place, the movie's finally set for release on October 9th.

Are we going to discuss how good she looks in 1980s fashion? I like her outfits here more than I did in Labor Day. More professional

Kate with brown hair is something I love to see! The film actually doesn't look bad, Kate looks really good.
