UPDATED 6/26/09: The season premiere may be titled "Savior." Alleged casting notices have gone out for "Alia," a "beautiful, sexy femme fatale assassin with mysteriously intimate ties to Clark and Krypton." She's an expert fighter, especially with a throwing star and a sword. They're looking for a martial arts background, and this role will recur.

Another female soldier who is described as "sexy and hot" is "Fiona." She wears a faded military jacket and turns against her leader. Together with another soldier named "Basqat" she imprisons her leader. This role may recur too.

UPDATED 6/21/09: Matt Mitovich of TV Guide says that we first meet field journalist John Corben as he steps into the shoes of a missing-in-action Clark Kent.

UPDATED 6/18/09: TV Guide has revealed that Beverly Hills 90210 and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles alum Brian Austin Green has been cast in "at least the first two episodes of Season 9" as Superman comics villain "Metallo." In this version of the story, Metallo's alter ego of John Corben will be a journalist for the Daily Planet.

MATT: At this juncture, BAG has been tagged for only the first two episodes of Season 9. But your query allows me to share this scooplet about Metallo's small-screen origin tale: The producers tell me that soon after mild-mannered John Corben begins his "Daily Planet" gig, "his fate takes a horrific twist that will change his destiny forever." Hmm, would that be Prof. Emmett Vale's cue?

BQM: We just finished long-boarding [Episode 4], and I’m working on the outline right now. We’ll pitch it to the studio/network this week. The most I can probably share is the very cryptic: “And she doesn’t notice the tag is still on the dress.” That could always change before production. I wouldn’t want fans of dresses with tags to get too upset if that beat never hits the screen!

Clark Kent’s new nemesis in Smallville’s ninth season will be Phantom Zone reject General Zod, played by 31-year-old Brit Callum Blue, whose credits include Dead Like Me and The Tudors.

But seems Supes may have another force to reckon with within his very own junior Justice League. Justin Hartley, who plays Oliver Queen/Green Arrow, recently met with his producers who told him, “Oliver will be more and more fed up with the whole [superhero] thing and on a downward spiral. I also hear he may be revisiting the Lois [romance].” Hmm...seems a poison arrow could be headed right through Clark’s heart.

Ausiello: Yep, it sure was. Speaking of which, Justin Hartley doesn't think a Green Arrow-Zod face-off is in the cards next season. "I have the good sense in my head to let Clark deal with [him]," he says with a laugh. "I'll stick to dealing with the ladies. Why would I start something with that guy? That guy looks tall in photos. I don't need a piece of that guy."

Question: Could you kindly tell us Smallville fans what Season 9 will be about? --Colin
Ausiello: According to Justin Hartley, a portion of it will be about Oliver confronting his demons. "I think he is going to struggle with the things he has been afforded [as a result of] his powers," he says. "He has sacrificed things and done things that haunt him… It's bad stuff. We need to get to the bottom of it."

'Smallville' casts its General Zod
Callum Blue will play the villain next season

Superman will be facing General Zod.

Brit Callum Blue has been tapped to play the young man of steel's (Tom Welling) arch nemesis on the upcoming season of CW's "Smallville."

Supervillain General Zod from the DC Comics books was introduced in 1980 feature "Superman II," where the role was played by Terence Stamp.

Blue, whose series credits include Showtime's "The Tudors" and "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" and the WB's "Related," is repped by Gersh and manager Beth Holden.

Smallville Casting Exclusive: Brian Austin Green Is Metallo!

It's official — the new season of Smallville can't get here soon enough.

Brian Austin Green has been cast on Smallville as the DC Comics villain Metallo, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.

That's right — the Terminator alum is now playing a cyborg himself. That is a pretty freakin' super bit of casting, right?

Green will appear as the kryptonite-powered villain (alter ego "Daily Planet" journo John Corben) in at least the first two episodes of Season 9, which takes flight Friday, Sept. 25.

Interestingly, Smallville fans were waiting for news on big, bad Zod, given the events of the Season 8 finale, but that role still has yet to be cast. (I suppose you could say the show "zigged" instead of Zod.)

Green's Smallville gig comes on the heels of the Beverly Hills 90210 alum passing on the role of One Tree Hill sports agent Clayton. (And isn't this role so, so much cooler?!) Prior to that, Green had been attached to the CW pilot Body Politic, but that series didn't get picked up for fall.

This past TV season, Green costarred on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, which was canceled after two seasons.

Question: What can we expect for season nine of Smallville?

Justin: “Well, I just had a meeting the other day with the producers. It’s going to be a lot about finishing things that have been built up over the course of the series. Hopefully, they’ll be bringing him back and dive into him a little more (pointing to Phil). Obviously the show is about Clark’s journey and it’s been this buildup for so many years and it’s getting to the point where it’s coming time. So, it will be interesting to see how they handle that. Then, everybody else’s character, I didn’t really get into any of that. I think that maybe they’re going to break me down a little bit and see what happens. See if I can go even darker. I’ll be so dark that I’ll be, like, purple. (laughs).“

More details on "Mason": Here are some details from the scenes that will be used to cast Mason. Be warned, this may not be the way the character will ultimately be.

- The scene takes place on the Queen Industries jet, and involves Mason with Tess.
- Tess is rushing onto the jet and is surprised by Mason's voice, who asks her if she's "All work and no play?"
- Tess tells Mason that she hoped he would have mastered more than a lexicon of cliches by now. He tells Tess she can stand down, becuase "it's me," and Tess says that "precisely who 'you' are is a little nebulous at the moment." Mason reminds her that that is "exactly the way you like it." He then keeps trying to find ways to come on to her.
- It sounds like Tess might "betray" Mason. In a later scene, Tess returns to the Luthor Mansion to find him inside, waiting. He mentions that she "turned on him" but he "survived it," and then works on psychoanalyzing Tess yet again.
- He tells Tess "I trusted you!" and tells her that he was the one shot she had at a fairy tale ending. She pulls a gun on him, and reminds him "You still need me." He realizes she's right.

What the hell was that? What happened to the Clois goodies we were promised in the Smallville season finale? Epic fail, man. — Jill
MATT: A lesser man would not run a question singling out a bad piece of intel, but I happen to be a super... guy. So yeah, I guess one source's idea of "Ooh, isn't it angsty and romantic?" is another person's "Time-jumping Lois sucks." (Still, Ms. Lane's offer to help the Blur decompress after his hard day must be filed under "Offers Impossible to Refuse.") To make amends, there is this: Lest you fear the worst — that Lois will conveniently stay "missing" for, like, the first third of Season 9 — I can tell you that is not the case. In fact, she... actually, no, I don't want to step out onto that limb just yet. But in a nutshell, Season 9 should be more than fine for Lois fans.

Um, Lois and the freaking Legion ring? Yeah, didn't see that one coming. A gazillion questions popped into my head all at once:

1. ZOMFGGGGGGG WHAT?????
2. Who the hell gave it to her?
3. Did she find it?
4. Does she know what it is and how it works?
5. If she doesn't know, how is she able to time travel since she has to think of a time and place?
6. Does she actually meet Rokk?
7. How gorgeous does Erica look?!

So, that's where I'm at concerning the whole ring....thing.

About Clois: well slap my ass and call me Judy. Clark will actually know he's going to die? Now that. Is interesting. Question to all of you: you find out that you have less than 24 hours to live and you might just happen to be in the middle of falling in love with someone, but you haven't told them how you feel yet. Would you do something about it before you die?

And oh look! It's nighttime! And Clark looks totally sad and preoccupied. Could it be that, just maybe, the guy has balls for ONCE, stands up, follows Lois and kisses her senseless?

Cause I kinda want that to happen.

Oh, and Louis promised me something:

"About that [Lois and Clark] love theme, I take it you'd like to hear it again... Well, I'll see what I can do."

I'm totally with you Nora.
It just makes sense that there'll be a Clois kiss. Plus, it's supposed to be "magical". I don't consider the phonecall-thing magical or Lois using the ring. The scene will make us forgive everything...doesn't that scream CLOIS KISS? aaaand Clark has only a few hours left as you pointed out.
So yeah, I say we'll get one. If we don't...guess who's more than upset

About the trailer:
It totally blew me away. It's packed with so much action and stuff. My eyes couldn't stop spinning

I really hope we get a kiss. It would be the (wild) cherry on top of an already great season.

From the promo it looks like Rokk tells Clark he is going to die, Clark goes to his desk extremely preoccupied with this news, Lois comes up and tries to find out once wrong and he kind of pushes her away, he feels bad about pushing Lois away so he decides to call her as the RBB and tell her everything.

Nora, I love your train of thought....b/c it was so much like mine. Also if we do get a Clois kiss in the finale, I could see it being before the time reversal so only one of them remembers it. That would allow the writers to stall on Clois a bit more before they get together in S9. It's interesting that now Clark knows he's going to die, so yeah I hope this gives him the motivation to man up and kiss the heck out of Lois.

As you can see, I'm not getting my hopes up for a kiss. My logic, common sense and intuition are telling me there WILL be a kiss, but I think it's best to expect no kiss in case it doesn't happen.

UPDATED 5/6/09: From the episode's promo, it appears that Chloe and Oliver do survive, at least long enough to make it to a funeral.
- It also looks like Black Kryptonite might split Doomsday and Davis, and that a female (Chloe? Tess?) will be the one to make the split happen.
- Lois will find a Legion of Super-Heroes ring.
- Someone will learn the truth about Clark being the Red-Blue Blur.

My first thought was: Jimmy or Lois. Can't be Tess because she already knows, albeit unofficially. I think there are two timelines: Jimmy dies in the first timeline (killed by Davis when he tries to protect Chloe), and Chloe dies in the second (Lois prevents Jimmy's death with the ring but is unaware that the price is Chloe's death). So Jimmy might know in that first timeline but he dies, and forgets it in the second timeline. Of course it could also be Lois, but I think they'll drag out that Lois/RBB storyline a little longer.

And anyone who understood what I was just babbling about gets a medal.

^I get what you're saying Nora. I think it'll probably be Jimmy in the first timeline before he dies then. They have way too much fun with Lois and Jimmy not being in on the secret so I doubt that the person who finds out that Clark is the RBB in the finale will hang onto that knowledge in S9.

Hm. I can - however - see them doing what they did on LnC: Lois knows Clark's secret, but we don't know that she knows and it's revealed in season 9.

God, I just want this ep to AIR already.

Injustice seems like....the biggest waste of all time right now.
