1.01 - Pilot

Favorite scene: Probably after Leonard invites Penny over to have lunch with them. Penny gets to learn early on about Sheldon's quirks and habits, like someone sitting in his spot. It was kind of cute how she just invited him to sit next to her, not really know just exactly how bad his problem was.
Favorite line: Sheldon: "Well, today we tried masturbating for money."
Overall thoughts of the episode: Even to this day I think the pilot was well done. Obviously, we all know that there are some inconsistencies throughout the season which doesn't credit the Pilot much, but it was still done well enough for us to understand the characters. And now looking back, I can see that none of the characters have really changed much, except for maybe Sheldon. Raj still can't talk to women, Howard is inappropriate, Leonard still has a crush on Penny, and Sheldon..well, at least he can communicate with Penny a little better now, that's about it.

No problem. You wanna start the one for Thursday?

Favorite scene: I agree with you Kara. The scenes where Penny learns about his quirks were the most hilarious ones. I also loved how Sheldon said all the bad comments. Just showed how bad his social skills are.
Favorite line: That's the beauty of it. [about facebook], Well, today we tried masturbating for money. There was some other lines I liked but I forgot which ones they were.
Overall thoughts of the episode: The Pilot was funny and well done. We got to know something about each character, about their quirks, habits and flaws. I have another observation but I will write it in the S/P Thread, so that people don't get spoiled.

Thanks for the thread Paula

Favorite scene: I agree that that first LPS scene was the best scene of the episode. It gives the first deeper insight into the characters. Also when Penny looks at Sheldon's work it seems like he was attracted to her and excited that a woman was seeing how brilliant he was.
Favorite line: What do you think their combined IQ is? Not so funny by itself but as a part of that whole dialogue it's just funny. Although the 'It's such a privilege to see your mind at work' might just be a close second
Overall thoughts of the episode: I saw the Pilot when it was originally aired. Well, with the obvious delay because I had to dl it but keeping that in mind I still think it's brilliant. The characters are well introduced. They have lots of funny lines and the contrast between Leonard/Sheldon vs Penny is a lot stronger. Personally I think that this is something that they've started blurring. In the Pilot you still see that Leonard isn't just someone that associates himself with these nerds but that he in fact is a full fledged nerd with the same problems in interacting with people outside his social circle. I preferred that view on him personally.

Best line has to be :

What if she ends up with a toddler who doesnt know if he should use an integral or differential to solve for the area under a curve?
I'm sure she'll still love him.
I wouldn't.

Jessie - this line was funny. I also liked the talk about Leonard/Penny babies:

Our babies will be smart and beautiful.

Not to mention imaginary.

That was a funny line, Jessie. It makes me think just exactly how good/bad a father Sheldon would be if he were to ever have kids. Poor things.

Normally one mind it find it odd that you not only open a season, but a series with a scene of two guys in a sperm bank. But I think that scene we learned a lot, at least about Sheldon and his views about people who aren't smarter than him, including his sister.

Cracked me up.

Just watched the pilot recently. I didn't love it but maybe it was because the laugh track bugged me so much. Seems like the comedies I've liked in the last 5 or 6 years don't have laugh tracks so it was weird getting into one again that does. But, having said that I did like the characters right off the bat, so I definitely wanted to see more.

I think it's when they don't shoot in front of an audience and use laughs that were recorded.

Oh, I thought that TBBT had a live audience though. I don't know, I apparently have no idea about any of that.

Laugh track? That's news to me as well.

Favorite scene:
Sheldon giving up his seat (forcefully) to Penny

Favorite line:
The masturbating for money line always slays me. Got the biggest laugh from the Pilot.

Overall thoughts of the episode:
Great episode. Enjoyable. Funny. Great introduction to the characters. Some funny one-liners, and a chance to get a peak at the insanity that is Sheldon.
