Ironically, I was thinking about the show, I did see an advert earlier for the BBC's WDYTYA as it's new series is starting tomorrow night. I hope they will also show the US one this year!
Yep, they showed that bit. Then there's a shot where he's sitting, still holding the umbrella, and he turns toward the camera and smiles sweetly.

Oh, crap, was that on last night?!

Even though it wasn't Jim's episode, I wanted to watch all the episodes this season. Do we know when Jim's episode will air?

Dang it!

As for Jim's Emmy submission, I do think that Habitat was a good choice. He gets to do his "wooden Sheldon" doing FWF, we get to see his wheel's spinning while he's trying to navigate between Wil and Amy in that first scene, and his typical cluelessness when she gets mad. And the scene at the bar is funny not only for the dialog and interaction between Sheldon and Penny, but also the physical comedy of Jim sucking down those drinks (I still love to watch that and imagine what that was like for him! )
And as others have said, we see him interacting with so many different characters in such different ways.

So, do the same people who would be voting for Jim's category also see the submissions for Best Comedy?

I saw it! They showed Jim second last in the opening credits. So cute:

I've seen the first five or six show dates listed, none of which are Jim's yet. I think it will be late August/early September before we see his episode.

The show gets to submit three episodes and they divide up the three episodes and submit one episode from the show's submission to go along with an actor submission. So sort of, I guess you might say. However, how they pick which episode goes to which actor category is beyond me and whether it helps the actor/actress further is unclear. Probably does not make much of an impact unless you hit the jackpot. For example, let's say Mayim submits Fish Guts for her submission and the show submitted D&D and her people got to see both episodes, then that would be great for Mayim. But if her people only saw Fish Guts and Egg Salad, it would not necessary help Mayim since she only had half a line in Egg Salad and that was it. Make sense?

Not necessarily. Here's the scoop. Actors vote for actors. Anyone (writers, directors, actors, technical crew) could vote for Series. However, the acting branch is divided into subgroups and each is assigned a category, meaning that the group that gets to vote for Supporting Actress is not the same that votes for Lead Actor or any of the other acting categories. Therefore, Jim's submission doesn't help Mayim and viceversa, because they are not in the same category. This rule does help actors of the same show in the same category *cough* Modern Family *cough*. Some people think that in 2011, when pretty much everyone expected Steve Carrell to win, Jim benefited from having Johnny Galecki in the same category. Voters got to see Jim's performance in two different episode and he was a previous winner, so you could say he had a built-in advantage over Johnny and everyone else.

The shows submit 6 episodes. They're split into 3 DVDs that have 2 episodes each. These are also randomly assigned to voters so they don't even get to see all the episodes. There might be a few members of the acting branch that get to vote in both Series and other categories, but not all of them do. They are randomly selected to avoid overlaps and to be fair to those contenders whose shows are not nominated in multiple categories, thus giving the show and its nominees an unfair advantage if the voters got to see multiple episodes of the same show. Of course, once again, shows like MF can get around that because they have multiple nominees under the same categories.

Thanks so much for the gifs, June! I knew you'd get 'em.

Wren on the other forum posted this excerpt from an interview Lisa Kudrow's producing partner did with Entertainment Weekly.

"Jim just started his journey yesterday, but I know as the producer that he’s got some unbelievable treasures to uncover in his historical past. A lot of times, our subjects are driven by something that happens in their lives, and I find that it adds a bit of depth to the motivation for doing the show. When you’ve lost a parent, it’s not the only motivation behind the inquiry, but it’s part of it — there’s always something emotional about that. Or, if you have a child, or when you get married..."

Lisa Kudrow partner Dan Bucatinsky on 'Friends,' Kelly Clarkson, Emmys | Inside TV | EW.com

The speculation is that Jim's episode will feature his paternal line. I can't wait!! Kelly Clarkson did a lot of narration (and driving) in her episode. I hope Jim does the same.

Phantagrae, it looks like WDYTYA will repeat the first Kelly Clarkson episode just before running the next installment, according to my Tivo.

Check your listings for next Tuesday, 7/30, at 8:00pm on TLC. Enjoy!

Thanks, purr and Jim_fan!

I was kind of hoping TLC would re-air each episode since many cable networks do.

I wonder if they will do Jim's dad's history (or a little of both) and if we'll see Jim with him's mama or maybe talking to other relatives, like aunts/uncles/cousins on his dad's side, since his grandparents have passed away.
Or maybe he'll relate some story he'd heard about his father's family history.

I can't wait to see what he finds out.

The full episode is also available now on the TLC site, but it doesn't have the opening credits sequence (with Jim) like the televised version.

A fan got an autograph. I love his handwriting.

Thanks for that link. It does sound like they will be focusing on Jim's dad and that part of his history. I know it's going to be emotional, no matter what he uncovers. I'm also still wondering where he is in that snippet of footage we have seen! WHERE ARE YOU, JIMMY?!

Aww. I love that he put a smiley face on there, too. Don't ever stop being adorable, Jim.

(from reading those tweets, Jim was on the same flight as the person's mother. On his way back to LA, perhaps? )

You know, I'm guessing that footage of him with the umbrella isn't even a part of his "quest." Because it sounds like he just recently started production on his episode, and TLC probably needed some footage of him long before that to insert into the previews and the opening.

So it sorta looks like New York to me.

But I could very well be wrong about all of that.

And there should be a law that all tweets about Jim Parsons must include detailed information regarding location, what he's doing, and color of his shirt. C'mon!!

He did recent filming in NYC for TLC's show. So yes, that is likely NYC where the umbrella scene was taped.
