The Cheesecake Factory (OT) #84 - Because we always have topics to discuss.

New thread - new topics.

By the way, the X-files just started shooting Season 11 :yay:

Thanks Suzanne :)

I'm exhausted. I'm cleaning my apartment to rent it, and it's a lot of work! Even more since I had the living-room painted, and the painters let the place really dirty :(
I wanted to have finish tonight but I'll have to go back tomorrow

Ugh! That sounds like hard work. Pleased you're getting a chance to rent the place out though. :)

I feel a lot better today! Health wise, anyway. I'm wallowing in debt. I've debated becoming an Uber driver on my days off from my job, but I know my folks (who since I live with them again now I can't exactly hide it) would be totally freaked out by it. My mother was just about a wreck when she found out I was planning to Uber around a bit in San Diego, if I was an actual driver she would lose it.

I think my biggest reason against being an Uber driver is all the socializing.... Having to deal with the passengers that want to talk. I'm not up for that.

TFTNT. I think if we really tried we could use up this thread before the new season premieres.

TFTNT! :)

Speaking of driving...Right now it's arguably the biggest thing that's stressing me out now :(

Since I wasn't improving much with the driving school I was signed up for (which IMO had a horrible system with long gaps in between each lesson, and a different instructor showing up every time), I started taking extra-lessons with another instructor. That started in May, and I usually get 2-3 lessons per week. I definitively feel more comfortable on the road now but I still tend to make a lot of mistakes and lack confidence.
Oh, and my practice sessions with my father aren't helping much cuz he's so harsh about everything. He himself has admitted that he's not suited for this due to his bad temper, which is quite exceptional for him. I can understand because sometimes a single mistake can have fatal consequences but still...Not helpful to someone with poor self-esteem and anxiety issues (>.<)

I've already failed the road test once (with a very rude examiner who coughed a lot) and spent well over 1000$ on extra-lessons alone  I REALLY don't want to drag this thing out beyond the summer but as it is now, I don't know if I'll be able to do it :(

It probably would have been easier if I wasn't taking one summer class and working 30hrs/week because then I'd be able to just concentrate on that one goal...

smoguntia 08-10-2017 02:02 PM

Take your time and as much lessons as you need. The more exercises, the better you drive and the safer you feel. It's all about experience.

I took 33 driving lessons at driving school and I still was drenched in sweat when I was driving alone for the first time.

WeBuiltThePyramids 08-10-2017 04:21 PM

Yeah, it's frustrating but take your time, practice as much as you can. A lot of the nerves will go away once you've done certain things enough (like left turns, parallel parking, merging, etc) because you will be used to them.

Tomorrow is moving day for my little sister. She's going from her current apartment to another city, where she and her boyfriend are moving for grad school. So while I have the day off from my job, I'm getting up two hours earlier than I would for the job and am going to spend just as much of the day doing even more physically demanding work.

I had my driver's permit for a year before I took the test for my license. And then it was about another two years before I really got used to driving on freeways. My dad also did a lot of my teaching, and it definitely brought out his temper too, so I can relate there as well.

But like the others said, take your time if you need it! It really is just a matter of practicing until it becomes almost like second nature.

IcyBerry 08-12-2017 06:17 AM

Yeah, thanks guys :) I will keep practicing (I have another lesson this afternoon).

smoguntia 08-12-2017 09:13 AM

In Germany you have to take lessons at a driving school before you get your licence. Without drivers licence you can only practice on special training grounds. Some of my friends did that and it always brought out their dad's temper. Practicing on parent's car probably always goes hand in hand with with bad temper - all over the world
