Chadwick Boseman’s ’17 Bridges’ Adds J.K. Simmons, Sienna Miller, Taylor Kitsch

J.K. Simmons, Sienna Miller and Taylor Kitsch have joined Chadwick Boseman’s action-thriller “17 Bridges” for STXfilms.

The mini-major announced in July that “Black Panther” star Boseman would produce and star in “17 Bridges.” Brian Kirk, whose credits include “Luther” and “Game of Thrones,” is directing from a script by Adam Mervis (“The Philly Kid”).

Boseman will portray a disgraced NYPD detective who, after being thrust into a citywide manhunt for a cop killer, is given a shot at redemption. As the night unfolds, lines become blurred on who he is pursuing, and who is in pursuit of him. When the search intensifies, extreme measures are taken to prevent the killers from escaping Manhattan as the authorities close all 17 bridges to prevent any entry or exit from the iconic island.

STXfilms said Wednesday that MWM Studios had joined previously announced producers Boseman, Logan Coles and Joe and Anthony Russo. Gigi Pritzker (“Hell or High Water”) will serve as a producer, Rachel Shane and Adrian Alperovich will serve as executive producers, and Melissa Rucker will be a co-producer, all on behalf of MWM Studios. Mike Larocca will executive produce the film under the AGBO banner.

Simmons won the 2015 Academy Award for best supporting actor for his performance in “Whiplash” and can currently be seen in Jason Reitman’s upcoming political drama “The Front Runner.” Miller starred in Tennessee Williams’ “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof in the West End” last year, and will next be seen in the indie thriller “American Woman.” Kitsch starred in “Only the Brave” and the six-part series “Waco.”

Simmons is represented by Gersh. Miller is represented by WME and United Agents in the U.K. Kitsch is represented by CAA and Untitled Entertainment. STXfilms’ Drew Simon and Kate Vorhoff will oversee the film’s production on behalf of the studio.

Sienna Miller, J.K. Simmons & Taylor Kitsch Join Chadwick Boseman In STX Thriller ’17 Bridges’

Oscar-winner J.K. Simmons, Sienna Miller, and Friday Night Lights alum Taylor Kitsch are set to co-star in 17 Bridges, the action thriller that will be led by Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman. The pic hails from STXfilms, which acquired the spec in 2016. MWM Studios, the company behind the Oscar-nominated film, Hell or High Water, has come on board to produce the pic alongside Boseman as well as Joe and Anthony Russo.

Brian Kirk is directing from a screenplay by Adam Mervis with revisions by Matt Carnahan. The pic will hit theaters July 12.

The plot follows a disgraced NYPD detective (Boseman), who is thrust into a citywide manhunt for a pair of cop killers after uncovering a massive and unexpected conspiracy. As the night unfolds, lines become blurred on who he is pursuing, and who is in pursuit of him. When the search intensifies, extreme measures are taken to prevent the killers from escaping Manhattan as the authorities close all 17 bridges to prevent any entry or exit from the iconic island.

Logan Coles, Boseman’s writing and producing partner, and Gigi Pritzker (Hell or High Water) are also producers, while Rachel Shane and Adrian Alperovich will serve as executive producers, and Melissa Rucker a co-producer, all on behalf of MWM. Larocca will exec produce the film under the Russo’s AGBO banner.

Drew Simon and Kate Vorhoff will oversee production for the studio.

Simmons, who won the Oscar for his supporting role in Whiplash, can next be seen in Sony’s Jason Reitman-directed political drama, The Front Runner. Miller last appeared on the big screen in The Catcher Was a Spy and next stars in the indie American Woman. Kitsch’s recent films include Only the Brave and American Assassin.

Simmons is repped by Gersh; Miller by WME and United Agents in the U.K.; Kitsch by CAA and Untitled Entertainment.

From the previous thread, now looks like Chadwick is scheduled to be in London this week with an appearance on Graham Norton later this week.

Do you know if there will be a London Premiere?

I still have no dates on either a London or New York premiere event.

SouthernSweetieTX 11-03-2019 09:56 PM

I wonder how many European cities he’s going to or interviews he’s doing. You’d think he’d do the London premiere while he’s there. Maybe they will do it before the NYC one.

worthyoflove 11-03-2019 09:57 PM

Here they don't usually do premieres on a Friday, so I would say Thursday the same day he tapes the show, but who knows. I would guess they do London first and then would go to New York and do press there.

I did see the movie is rated R on a preview today, I guess I just ignored that previously or never checked.

One of the members of Chadwick's team posted that they'd be leaving from LA to London today, will be in London from tomorrow through Friday, then back to LA, so maybe next week they'll be doing press in California, then to New York.

The New York premiere will be Tuesday, November 19th, no word on where yet.

God, I hope so, I'd be both extremely pissed off and disappointed if they pushed it back last minute.

Ready to cringe my way through this thing...if this is the clip they're releasing. I definitely get that 90's cop drama vibe from it, The Fugitive, Ransom, etc.

DaisyGirl14 11-05-2019 09:25 PM

Oh, that clip is kinda cringe-worthy (and I mean that in the kindest way).;)

I was reminded of this film earlier today as I was listening to a podcast on the Preppy Murder that took place in Central Park in the 1980s. They said that on the morning that her body was discovered, they closed all the bridges in Manhattan. I honestly didn't know that this had actually happened before.

worthyoflove 11-05-2019 09:51 PM

It seems like a logistical nightmare, but not that out of the realm of possibility if something extreme happened.

From what I gather press in London starts tomorrow, no idea if Taylor is there. I then think some promo will be done next week in LA, how much, I don't know. Chadwick is scheduled to be on Ellen on November 18th, but she has weird taping schedules. The week of the release it definitely looks like they'll be in New York.

Is it bad if I say that I'm a little disappointed? I know it's on a 24 hr timelapse thing, and I know Tay's just a supporting guy instead lead role. But I kind of had a different idea in mind for how the storyline would play out. And With the little sneak peeks from the trailer and the clip, Kind've took a turn for the worst for me. Don't get me wrong, I'm still gonna see it and I'm still kind of like the idea of a whole bad boy role (Although moms loathing the fact that I wanna see him as a Cop-Killer.) But I'm just a little disappointed that some things from the first 2 trailers aren't exactly what I thought, or that the story may not play out how I imagined it, judging from things I read around for searching for stuff on 21, and I'll admit a little with 2 push backs the excitement isn't quite AS high as when I first hoped it to come out this spring and then earlier in the fall. And I'm a little selfishly disappointed that most of the story seems to be focused on Chadwicks chara.

worthyoflove 11-06-2019 09:22 AM

The official account has been posting character videos for each character, one new one each day, I'd assume Taylor's would be today but it's pretty much just what we've seen already so far.

It seems like Chadwick is the only one in London doing press, so that makes me question just how much we'll see of Taylor at all outside of New York promotion, which would be the usual radio rounds, Build Series event with the cast and the premiere. I'm kind of losing hope that we'll see him on any late night shows. It's just not his movie.

Basically this feels a lot like AA, but the best part of AA for me was watching Dylan and Taylor act like giggling idiots through a lot of the promotion because they had so much fun together. I just don't think we're going to get that here, unfortunately.

Here are Sienna and Stephan's character videos:

This...is really embarrassing and adds to the argument that, yes, marvel/dc movies are kind of ruining the industry.

Royalnation 11-06-2019 12:59 PM

Tay released his chara profile snippet, makes me wonder why it's not released on the 21 Bridges account though... and I'm kind've disappointed he's not a disgruntled Ex-Cop or a Cop that's been undercover too long so he turned bad, but I've always been partial to his Navy -boy charas anyway. Least it answers some questions as to why the scars, and tattoos.. I just wonder how much of a Backstory we'll get, I know it'll probably be as brief if not briefer than Chon, but it also draws me back to the Post-Ben and O/Savages storyline again https://imgur.com/a/a2CVHzx (the whole "Insert Image" isnt letting post the Image to my post for some reason... Unless I haven't quite figured that part out yet. So ya get the linky instead. xD)
