Really, technically speaking, Texas isn't the south...we're our own thing.

The zoo in Waco was better than I had hoped for. I'm a zoo snob. The Ft. Worth Zoo is hands down my favorite and a very hard act to follow. I was pleasantly surprised! They had two beautiful giraffes. They were both unusual colors/patterns. I had never seen a giraffe that wasn't your standard-issue giraffe color. These two were so pretty. I think OM took a picture, I'll have to post it so you can see. There were no hippos though and in order to see the alligators, I had to walk through the bird aviary. I did not appreciate that. They have a baby orangutan. OMG! The cutest little thing!
Can I be honest? I have a really weird dislike of Chip and Joanna. I don't know what it is. I just can't stand them. That being said, I'd still go to Magnolia. I do like some of her Target/design stuff.

I haven't been to the zoo in forever. I think the last zoo I went to was probably the zoo in Chicago in Lincoln Park. It's free and you can kind of just wander through. The zoo here is actually really really nice, we have a state of the art polar bear exhibit. I just haven't been in forever.

I did Cycle Bar over the weekend and almost puked. I'm so out of shape, it was bad. So naturally I signed up for more classes to kick my ass.

Need to stop buying stuff for my room before I've even done anything with it yet. I ordered a rug off of Wayfair and thought that was what I wanted, until I saw another rug I loved in Home Goods today. This would be the first time I've had to return something to Wayfair and totally didn't realize that they don't provide shipping for your returns. The price of shipping to return the rug is like 1/3 of what it cost me. I might just hang on to it and repurpose it for another space.

The count for the wedding this weekend is slowly ticking up and it's making me a bit nervous. We've added on three people. Which, the brides family is coming from New York when they originally weren't planning on driving, now they are. I'm happy they're coming just unsettled a bit with the number of people. We're still under 20 though.

OM's teacher sounds like a nitpicker powertripper.

The NFC East was pretty bad last year too. We lost to Pittsburgh last weekend but it wasn't terrible. I do feel bad about Dak though. I didn't realize he was so beloved. I thought he had a cocky reputation but I guess I was wrong.

They didn't put my nephew on anything. His symptoms weren't that bad.

The good news is that they don't think my fibroid looks suspicious but she made it a point to say that they wouldn't know for sure until it went to pathology. My mother will probably come stay with me for a few days. Depending on if they do it laparoscopically or not, depends on my recovery time.

Your aunt just showing up would be pretty shocking here especially in the time of Covid. We still aren't going into one another's homes. Going to be a long winter.

I actually don't know who Chip and Joanna are. I think they are on one of the Home shows right?

I'm not a fan of zoos or aquariums. I feel bad for the animals. I know there are some rescue zoos but I still feel bad. I can't even go into a pet store or shelter. I have issues.

Thanks for the new thread A, I didn’t notice it. Sorry.

Chip and Joanna Gaines did the TV show Fixer Upper. Chip is from Dallas. They meet at Baylor and started with a real estate business. Now they have completed revitalized downtown Waco and put Waco on the map. Which, let’s be honest, they needed since they were most well known for the Koresh event. It seems, you either hate the growth or love it. They’ve seriously boosted Waco’s economy. Now they have the real estate business, a B and B, a bakery, a restaurant, the market, the silos...and a new tv channel debuting next year. Plus a full furniture line, 2 cookbooks, Chip has a book, and a Target line. I adore them! I like her style, modern farmhouse.

I’ve always loved the zoo! I enjoy seeing the animals. I totally get what you are saying. I asked the question Tuesday...do you think they know they are captive, like humans know they are in prison? The Ft. Worth Zoo has natural habitat enclosures. I think more and more zoos are going that direction. I know the Dallas Zoo was mostly cages, and over the past 20years they have worked to move to natural habitat. I love the animals too, and feel sad too. Most zoos are working on breeding and keeping species from going extinct, so they are doing god work for the animals.
There’s a rescue zoo here in Austin. It’s bigger than I thought it would be, and they help sick animals and are part of a breeding program too. They return the animals to the wild when they can.
There’s a fantastic rescue wildlife ranch in Denton, just north of Dallas. They have lemurs! I LOVE lemurs!!! They work to breed animals that are endangered and then send them back into nature as well.

I’ve never had to return anything to Wayfair either. I hate that the shispspingh cost is so much. If you don’t want to keep it, you could try FB marketplace or Nextdoor to sell it.

I’m sorry the wedding count is stressing you out. I hate that for you. Deep breaths, it’ll all be okay.

My aunt is the poster child for eccentric. She came down to see a friend who is on hospice at her sister’s house. Her sister has been caring for her for three years and now she’s very close to the end of her life. She worked with this lady for years and years. Sweetest woman in the world. My aunt has been having a hard time with her illness, and was dragging her feet to come visit. Her sister called and said, now or never, so she drove down. My aunt is retired and is home most of the time, I was worried from a COVID perspective. It just caught me off guard. She could have called that morning, even. It would have been nice to be prepared. Thankfully, the house wasn’t a wreck. I’m not super spontaneous. I’ve tired to be better since Lee’s death. To say yes where he would have said no. To get out of the house when he would have stayed home. Blessed are the flexible, for they shall bend and not be broken.

Baby Minion has a play to see tomorrow. It will be “aired” virtually, so we can watch from home. Saturday he has a frog dissection lab. I’m curious to see how he does...he wants to be a vet, and this is part of it. he does well.

Amanda: driving to Arizona, we didn't run into too much trouble finding rest stops with bathrooms. I did experience that earlier in the summer in California but this trip, not so much.

Arizona and mask-wearing is DEFINITELY different that California ...

I guess you know a bit about them. haha

I've never ordered from Wayfair. A friend of mine ordered something that never came and she is still fighting with them about it. And then all that conspiracy **** has left a bad taste in my mouth.

This was a pretty cool open/safari field trip we went on last year. I asked our guide a million questions about the welfare of the animals. She hated me!

PS. Ignore my orange roots. Still trying to figure out how to prevent that without doing a full head of highlights. I've been using purple shampoo which seems to be working.

I’ve seen all the Fixer Upper episodes.

That giraffe is so cute!

I ordered my bed frame from Wayfair. No issues with it. I’ve taken it apart and moved it too.
I read about the conspiracy stuff!

That’s great that the shampoo is working!

So...my aunt, the one who showed up last Wednesday...she did it AGAIN last night! Her friend who was on hospice passed away on Wednesday and she came back to Austin to see her friend’s family. She showed up at my house at 7pm! This time she called about 20 minutes before she got there. Y’all. We were not ready for that. OM had a frog dissection this morning. She woke us all up at 7:15, ringing the doorbell bc she locked herself out of the house. I love her dearly. BUT, she needs to call in advance before she shows up!

I ordered a vanity from Wayfair for my bathroom and no issues. The rug, different story, but whatever, it is what it is. I should have looked at their return policy more closely.

I use purple shampoo for my hair too, usually once a week. It keeps the brassiness at bay.

Sorry I've been kind of MIA, busy weekend setting up and having the wedding. It came and went so fast but was exhausting.

I shake my fist at Anthropologie! I knew this was going to happen. I ordered a duvet cover and shams that I adored. It said "only a few left" when I went to order it but it went through. The shams shipped and arrived last week, they said the duvet wouldn't ship until after this weekend...then today I get a cancelation email. They were out of stock. This happened to me once before with Anthro. I wouldn't be that upset if I hadn't really really loved the duvet. So now I have to go and return the shams because can't use those without the comforter and rethink the whole look. Boo.

Could they possibly have the duvet in the store?

None of them near me, they usually tell you if it's at a store near you. The two closest to me do not have them or they say they don't have it. And generally Anthro doesn't carry a ton of home stuff in their stores...though one them near me does do in home designing so they do. Maybe I'll make sure when I go to return the shams this week.

I made it home from Sedona tonight. We were going to drive home on Monday (after my birthday) but both of us really needed to get back to civilization and work. It was a great trip though ... totally cut off from electronics unless we drove into town (which we only really did on Thursday). The weather was hot in the day - pretty cold at night. But we hiked a ton, took a ALOT of photos with my new camera (a birthday present I bought for myself) and had a great time. I'm definitely ready for a hot shower and an indoor bathroom.

Amanda, I hope the wedding was great ... can't wait to hear more.

Sounds like a great time!

Not a ton to tell, everything went according to plan. The bride's parents originally were not coming to the wedding just because of travel, and they didn't want to travel right now. But her dad did end up flying in as a surprise for her and walked her down the aisle. Lots of tears. It was a little cold so being outside at our cottage was dicey but I still had to decorate the deck/outside area up.

We had a bonfire going out front and the guys were out there off and on, we had a bunch of people staying at the house and my brother's best man went to hang out by the fire because he just got back from living in LA and still is kind of on Cali time, but nobody realized he was outside and the sliding doors were locked and for some reason he didn't knock and just decided to sleep out by the fire and luckily found his keys in his coat pocket and slept in his car. Other than that, uneventful. I'm swimming in cake, that I won't eat. I was in the office today but I'll take it with me tomorrow.

Otherwise, still trying to find that perfect really really hint of pink color for the bedroom. It's been a challenge.

This was just some of what I did to the deck/outside up north. I pinterested the hell out of the decorations.
