I think that what Variety chose to do is just another example of clickbait and that Variety knew exactly what they did and were doing and so their apology comes across as meaningless and an example of them trying to cover themselves when they knew what they were doing all along was wrong. I am glad that Variety got called out for what they chose to do.

I think that Variety just used Kristen's name to try and get attention and web clicks but, it backfired on them in a very public manner, they made the same mistake that a certain charitable organization made in my opinion.
