"I was up at San Francisco State studying
business management and I kind of couldn’t find my niche in anything.
My heart wasn’t into baseball anymore, and that’s the reason I went up there,
so it was the time to really find out what I wanted to do. I kept going back and
forth with myself, thinking, oh do you want to act, because I didn’t know what
my parents would think, and finally just called them and said listen, I want to
go back home and start acting, and they were like “okay, do your thing” so I
came back, jumped into a class for 8 months, and this project was like the 5th
or 6th audition I’ve ever been out on, and it came my way.
I just feel really lucky."

Born and raised in Encino, California to a wholesale diamond dealer and a designer, Daren Kagasoff, is the middle of three children. While attending San Francisco State University, Kagasoff decided that what he really wanted to do was follow his dreams of being an actor. So, he headed back to Los Angeles and landed a lead role in the Whitmore-Lindley Theatre Center production of subUrbia, a play based on the film of the same name starring Parker Posey, Giovanni Ribisi and Steve Zahn. Kagasoff played alcoholic slacker, Tim, who struggled to find purpose in the inevitable ennui of suburban life. However the play got terrible reviews. So Daren then began taking acting lessons and on his 5th audition he landed the role as "Ricky" on The Secret Life of the American Teenager.

Daren's favorite comfort food is pizza.
Daren says he does not like using ringtones because they freak him out, so his phone is always on vibrate.
Daren is of Russian descent.
Daren loves watching Keeping up with the Kardashians since his friend Rob appears on the show.
Daren says his ideal girl would be someone really intelligent and be able to keep a steady conversation. Somebody that always keeps him thinking. And that he could learn something from.
Daren's iPod playlist includes: Electro music and some Jack Johnson.
Daren said one of the worst grades he ever got was a 15% on one of his finals.
Daren is a former star high school baseball player.
Daren's favorite hobby is playing golf.
Daren's nickname is D-Kag.
Daren's favorite food is the mashed potatoes at Chaya Brasserie in LA.
Daren is a Lakers fan.
He attended high school at Montclair College Prep in Panorama City, CA.
Daren has two siblings, older brother Justin and younger sister Natalie.
His favorite clothing store is American Rag.

Reasons We Love him:

Because he's smooth.
Because he can make the girls melt with a simple smile.
Because he's Grant high's resident bad boy.
Because he can set the mood, even at Band Camp.
Because even when he's being a jerk he is still hot.
Because he's the drummer in the school band.
Because he makes therapy seem like not such a bad thing.
Because he's got a vulnerable side after all.
Because he's had a tough childhood.
Because he's constantly fighting to prove his masculinity.
Because guys are jealous of him.
Because he walks around with his drumsticks in his back pocket. And that's hot.
Because he is happy to help a lady put up her instrument case.
Because he can be funny.
Because he's not exactly the kind of guy who gets cheated on.
Because Jealous Ricky is irresistible.
Because he is direct and to the point.
Because somehow he seems to have EVERYONE'S number.
Because he cleans up nice.
Because somehow he can juggle three girls at the same time.
Because he is most honest in therapy.
Because clearly, he is not sterile.
Because he was scared when he heard Amy was pregnant.
Because he has lying down to an art.
Because he's not a worthless piece of trash!
Because he's as good as anyone else.
Because he surprised us all and decided to take responsibility for the baby.
Because he's trying to be a better person.
Because he makes the cutest faces!
Because he hits on everyone in sight.
Because he thinks Grace's mom is kind of hot.
Because he has that tortured, loner thing going on. And we dig it.
Because he's needy.
Because he makes baking cookies irresistible!
Because all the girls love him, all the guys hate him
Because he looks hot in an apron.
Because he has the best hair.
Because he's hot enough that some fans want to date him.
Because he has daddy issues.
Because he has a tough exterior but soft interior.
Because he's not his father.
Because he can stop the cycle of abuse in his family
Because Daren keeps getting better and better
Because it's sad when Ricky cries
Because when Ricky cries, we cry
Because Ricky would pray to God
Because Ricky won't sell his own baby
Because there are some things more personal than sex
Because Ricky being abused doesn't mean he'll do the same thing
Because if Ricky doesn't love himself, we'll love him
Because he can't help it if his father did horrible things to him
Because his father is back in prison
Because Anne Juergens and Marshall Bowman believe in him, and so do we!
Because Grace believes he'll make a great father, and so do we!
Because Ricky is thrilled he's having a son

Because Ricky cried when Amy was firm on the adoption idea
Because we love his wide smiles
Because his smiles light up an entire room
Because he knows what he wants and he goes for it.
Because he read a pregnancy book.
Because he doesn’t like people in his personal space.
Because he looks damn fine posing for a fake I.D.
Because he was scared and freaked out when he heard the rumors about Amy.
Because he's not trash.
Because he wanted to know if he could still see how own kid if they decided on adoption.
Because he's learning about babies and stuff.
Because he's not an uncaring, heartless jerk -despite what some girls think!
Because he's a smooth talker!
Because he has daddy issues. And we love him all the more for that!
Because, okay, so he's a manwhore. So what?
Because he created a life.
Because he makes making cookies hot!
Because he can rock a yellow cooking apron.
Because he is not his father.
Because Ricky will not give into Bob's plan and sell his own baby.
Because he doesn't want people to feel sorry for him.
Because he will not agree to having the baby adopted.
Because we love him even if he doesn't love himself.
Because when he cries, he makes us want to cry!
Because Ricky is ecstatic that "it's a boy".
Because Grace believes Ricky will make a good father, and so do we
Because he cried when Adrian was next to him
Because he was reading about 'Giving Birth'
Because he can't imagine holding his son, seeing his tiny hands and feet, and then handing him over to someone else.
Because it's one thing to know where babies come from, it's another thing to actually see where they come from.
Because Adrian's right, "who wouldn't want to keep Ricky's baby?"
Because he was excited to have a job.
Because he wants Amy to keep the baby.
Because he's proving to everyone he's not like his father.
Because he'll be a good father -we can tell already.
Because he makes a white apron look good
Because his baskets were better
Because he's determined to not screw up the job
Because we like the way he says 'Hey'.
Because he's the baby daddy!
Because he's been taking care of himself for a long time.
Because if any young man is capable of going to high school and raising his child, he can.
Because his foster mother has faith in him.
Because he's not a drop-in kind of guy.
Because Ricky was practicing diapering with a doll.
Because he beat Jack in diaper changing.
Because he was baby-proofing his room.
Because Margaret thinks Ricky will make a very good father.
Because he's more responsible than we first thought.
Because he's a friendly guy.

(Episode 1.14: The Father & The Son)

Ricky: Get away from her! What are you doing here, hu?
Jack: Whoa, whoa, whoa don't do anything stupid Ricky. Don't hit the guy it's okay.
Bob: Yeah, it's okay.
Ricky: It's never gonna be okay.
Bob: Yeah probably not. I met Amy, seems really nice, met her parents too. I hope you're not planning on keeping the baby. They don't think you'd make a very good father. Neither do I.
Tom: That's the man who called. Whose the man?
Ricky: My father.

(Episode 1.15: That's Enough of That)

Ricky: Okay, you want to get to know me? You wanna know who I am? The reason I'm in foster care is not just because my dad smacked me around and smacked my mom around. It's not just because they were both drug addicts and abandoned me over and over again. It's because my dad used to come home after a long day of hanging out and getting high to teach me a little lesson in how hard it is to be a man in this world. That's what he called it. A little lesson, every night I'd be in bed with my door closed just begging God that he wouldn't come in my room for one of his little lessons. But night after night after night there he was. And when I couldn't take it anymore, when I hated him enough, when I really didn't care if I lived or died, I told my teacher at school then she told someone and they told someone else and eventually but believe me not quickly, eventually he went off to prison. But guess what, he's back and he's hanging around. Yeah, he went to see Amy and then he came around when I was with Grace, so lock your doors cause he'll probably show up here too. Not that he's interested in you or Grace or Amy. No, he's just interested in me and hurting me! He actually wants me to make someone pay for my baby and then give him the money, then he'll leave me alone. Nice hu?

(Episode 1.18: Making Up Is Hard to Do)

Dr. Fields: You are not capable of loving someone until and unless you love yourself.
Ricky: That's the thing, I think I do. What, I'm not allowed to make progress?
Dr Fields: Hey, no one would be happier than me. Tell me, why do you think you made that kind of progress?
Ricky: Because I didn't sell my baby to the highest bidder. I didn't offer him up to get rid of my dad. You know, I realize somehow that I'm really not my father. For the first time I realized it, I'm not him and I'm not gonna be him.

(Episode 1.21: Whoomp [There it Is])

Margaret: You know what I heard at work yesterday?
Ricky: Uh that Amy's keeping the baby.
Margaret: Yeah, I heard that at work instead of from you.
Ricky: That's why I'm workin'. She's keeping the baby and I'm gonna help out.
Margaret: Wow, guess you'd better start baby-proofing this room down here. You know it's the only area in the house that's not baby-proofed.
Ricky: The baby's not gonna be here, the baby's gonna be with Amy.
Margaret: Oh really, every day for the rest of his life? He's never gonna be here with you?
Ricky: I don't think so, no. I don't think anyone's gonna be comfortable with me babysitting.
Margaret: Are you comfortable babysitting? Are you going to be comfortable with your son?
Ricky: What, I'm gonna touch my own kid? Just because I was abused doesn't mean I would ever, ever do anything to my son.
Margaret: I know that, I just wanna make sure that you know that.
Ricky: But it doesn't matter. I think Ben's gonna be more like the father.
Margaret: Think again. I doubt that Ben knows how to do laundry. I doubt if Ben knows how to make a meal out of what's left in the refrigerator. I doubt if Ben knows to check if the door's are locked before everybody goes to bed at night. I doubt if Ben can even drive or find an all night pharmacy when someone is sick. I doubt if Ben can even take care of anyone, even himself, but you have been taking care of yourself for a long time. You even help me with all of these kids in and out of here. I wish that you didn't have to take care of your son and be in high school at the same time but if any young man is capable of doing that, you are.

Margaret: I wanna by you something. You're the father, you're gonna be needing things too.

LOL it was embarrasing yesterday because my mom was here in the room with me and I was watching some of my Band Geek vids but I was only focusing on Ricky and well...let's just say the thoughts I kept having were sinful. Sure my mom didn't know what I was thinking but still.
