Cole
Cole Lockhart is Alison's husband. He is the prodigal son of a large, boisterous family who has owned a ranch in Montauk for generations. He is equally devastated by the horrible loss he and Alison have suffered, but he finds comfort in his responsibilities at the ranch and the loving support of his family.


Alison
Alison Lockhart is a Montauk native who works as a waitress at a local diner. She is married to Cole, the son of a local landowning family. They are struggling to recover from a tragic loss and their relationship is in repair. The handsome writer from the city provides a tantalizing escape.


Noah
Noah Solloway is a writer and schoolteacher who is happily married to Helen. They live in Brooklyn with their four children and are beholden to Helen's wealthy father, a famous novelist, for their spacious brownstone. Noah's first novel was recently published to mixed reviews. He is vacationing with his family at his in-laws' estate in Montauk for the summer, where Noah hopes to write a more successful follow-up. The appearance of a beautiful young waitress is a tempting distraction and a serious threat to everything he has.


Helen
Helen Solloway is Noah's loving wife and the mother of their four children. A deft manager of their busy lives, she still loves her husband after all these years. While her father is a renowned novelist, that success has come at the expense of his family. Helen has high hopes for Noah's own writing career, but is wary of repeating the mistakes of her parents.


About the Series

At once deeply observed and intriguingly elusive, THE AFFAIR explores the emotional effects of an extramarital relationship. Noah is a New York City schoolteacher and novelist who is happily married, but resents his dependence on his wealthy father-in-law. Alison is a young waitress trying to piece her life and marriage back together in the wake of a tragedy. Set in Montauk at the end of Long Island, the provocative drama unfolds separately from both the male and female perspectives, using the distinct memory biases of both to tell the story.

Ok, I know we are pathetic, but why this casting? Dominic west is no match for Josh. I keep trying to understand what they were trying to accomplish with the casting of Noah. I get Maura Tierney (love her in this role). And I see why Ruth is a fit for Alison (gloomy and tortured but with some appeal). But I am totally missing how they want us to believe the attraction between Noah and Alison. Must have to do with the cutting.

I feel the same way, but I wonder if t's because I am bias to the fact that Josh is playing the second male lead. I don't think so, but I have to wonder if this dislike is somehow intentional because he just is not believable as the other man. I'm not feeling it at all.

and Justyne - I am always biased when it comes to anything with Josh involved but I can say i actually detest Noah's character and I don't know why (I don't particularly like alison either but Cole must of liked something about her so i am sticking with trying to like her at least)

I don't know which sites they would specifically monitor, but I have heard Directors/Producers/Writers talk about how they go to the fan sites to see what is being talked about. We can use Dawson's Creek as an example. Apparently the endgame was supposed to be Dawson and Joey, but they ended up going the Pacey and Joey endgame because of their popularity with the fans. They can only know about what the fans want by checking out the fan sites and discussion topics.

When I googled Cole Lockhart yesterday, our Thread was third on the list, so if we are keeping our Threads active, then they are going to show up high on the google searches. Some of our lurkers just might be crew members from The Affair.

Oh oh, there is hope! I have a latent writing career just waiting to be developed in my golden years! Maybe we could establish some secret communication like saying "I sure hope cCole gets a pet Labrador" and then he gets one! Then we will know they are listening.

I know I know nothing about being a big celebrity, but don't you think it's only human to be drawn to a forum such as ours that only serves to sing your praises and offer undying devotion? Who doesn't need that in their lives even if from random strangers whose sole purpose to unite is over their affection for you?
